Original Title:

Howling, The

Joe Dante's take on the wolfman legend generates its atmosphere through nail-biting suspense rather than the mere flash of bloody fangs.

The woodland location of a clinical retreat provides both the plot's conspiratorial theme and the unnerving setting, although Rob Bottin's once innovative make-up special effects now appear a little flea-bitten.

Nail biting suspense as opposed to ketchup splattered gore makes this film successfully chilling.
