With a hero, a villain and a mentor in place, the new Hellboy movie – named either simply after the hero or with the subtitle Rise Of The Blood Queen, depending on which report you read – now has someone else for the demonic central character to interact with, as American Honey's Sasha Lane will play Alice Monaghan.

Torn from the pages of Mike Mignola's comicbooks, Alice is a young woman who was kidnapped by fairies to raise as their own after they discovered they could no longer have children. Hellboy rescued her and she had lingering supernatural abilities following her time with the fae folk. How much of that backstory and the exact nature of her relationship will be in the movie with the main character (played this time out by Stranger Things' David Harbour) is still unknown.

She joins a cast that already boasts Ian McShane (as Hellboy's adoptive father, Professor Broom) and Milla Jovovich, who is playing the big threat, medieval sorceress and Blood Queen Nimue, looking to destroy the world.

Neil Marshall is directing the movie, aiming to kick off shooting next month in Bulgaria and the UK.
