You might not have heard of Icelandic group Sigur Rós, but chances are you’ll recognise their music: CSI, 24, Vanilla Sky and Children Of Men have all employed their gorgeous, ethereal sound.
Sitting on the musical spectrum between Radiohead and Brian Eno, you might expect a concert film to reveal them as pretentious ‘artistes’. In fact, it achieves the opposite: intimate interviews show us only likeable, ordinary and funny folk.
Filming the group on gigs across their homeland (or Heima), director Dean DeBlois also magnificently captures their intense live performances, plus jaw-dropping hi-def cinematography of Iceland itself. One of the most beautiful audiovisual experiences of the year.
