The Grifters Review

Small-time conman Roy experiences torn loyalties between his estranged mother and new girlfriend - both of whom are masterful con artists with their own agendas to force.

A host of superb performances from the Oscar-nominated Anjelica Huston as Lily (Who was originally scheduled to be played by Melanie Griffith, who became pregnant and had to pull put), John Cusack as her son Roy, and the Oscar-nominated Annette Bening as his lover — all masters of the “grift” or short con — make this a gripping and ocassionally dark thriller about the eccentric world of gambling and the con-artist.

Tautly directed by Stephen Frears and adapted from the classic Jim Thompson novel. The Grifters received mixed reviews on theatrical release but certainly well worth a look on the small screen.

A perfectly cast and gripping neo-noir thriller.
