"Today is a good day to die!" Readers of a certain age will fondly remember Flatliners, a cult psychological horror about a group of young medical students who produce near-death experiences to explore the afterlife, with surreal and sometimes horrifying results. Well, Hollywood has applied the movie defibrillator to the premise, as Flatliners is getting a fresh 21st-century reboot, and the first trailer and poster has arrived. Take a look below.

The original 1990 movie, Joel Schumacher's follow-up to The Lost Boys, starred a bevvy of now-established, then-up-and-coming actors like Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon and Keifer Sutherland. Flatliners, 2017 vintage, is no different, with hot young things like Ellen Page, Diego Luna and Nina Dobrev starring as the medical students who dice with death. Sutherland also pops up himself in a cameo role.

Niels Arden Oplev, the Danish director behind the original Swedish version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, is in the director's chair for this one, working from a script by Source Code scribe Ben Ripley. Flatliners arrives in cinemas in September this year.
