Gal Gadot in the trenches as Wonder Woman

No surprise here, obviously. Wonder Woman is, to date, the DCEU's single unqualified success, earning the best reviews of the franchise to date and outgrossing Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice domestically (only lagging slightly behind it worldwide). Gal Gadot is top o' the world here, and unlike some of her colleagues, appears to be having a whale of a time.

Director Patty Jenkins actively pursued Kristen Wiig for the role of Cheetah, and Wiig was officially announced as having accepted it in March, 2018. Chris Pine is Steve Trevor

Chris Pine - Wonder Woman 1984

Wait, what? Didn't he...? Yup, he apparently did, but this is the world of comics where all bets are off. We don't yet know what form his return will take, but the officially-released still of Chris Pine in '80s fashions suggest he's alive, well and displaced in time, rather than any sort of flashback or phantasm.

Robin Wright and Connie Nielsen are Antiope and Hippolyta

Robin Wright / Connie Nielsen - Wonder Woman

Robin Wright confirmed to Net-A-Porter in August 2018 that she and Connie Nielsen had shot a flashback scene for Wonder Woman 1984 in Spain. Wright, obviously enough, will reprise her role as Antiope, general of the Amazon army and Diana's aunt. Nielsen, you'll recall from last time, is her sister Hippolyta, Diana's mother and queen of Themyscira.

Pedro Pascal is playing an as-yet undisclosed role

Pedro Pascal - Wonder Woman 1984

We don't know his character yet, but Pedro Pascal, star of the Netflix drama Narcos, is another personal choice by Patty Jenkins: the pair having worked together previously on the 2015 TV movie Exposed). Jenkins shared the above still of him in Wonder Woman 1984 in August 2018, but nobody was any the wiser. This isn't his first brush with Wonder Woman: he was previously in the pilot for the – ultimately abandoned – 2011 TV series with Adrianne Palicki. On that occasion he played Boston cop [Ed Indelicato](http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Edward_Indelicato_){href='http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Edward_Indelicato_(New_Earth)' target='_blank' rel='noopener noreferrer'}.

Also cast in as-yet mysterious roles are Natasha Rothwell, Ravi Patel, Gabriella Wilde and Kristoffer Polaha.

Lynda Carter - Wonder Woman

In 2017 there were rumours that Patty Jenkins was trying to chivvy Lynda Carter into a cameo appearance. Carter confirmed those rumours in the spring of 2018, but whether she'll actually appear in Wonder Woman 1984 remains an open question. "I’ve been talking to [Patty] about it," Carter told the US Today programme's host Megyn Kelly. "She has given me some hints about it and I guess it’s up to Warner Bros. if they want to spend the money..."

Though he said after Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice that he was retiring from superhero movie scores, composer Hans Zimmer has written the music for Wonder Woman 1984. Rupert Gregson-Williams scored the first Wonder Woman, but it's still Zimmer who is most closely identified with the main theme for Gal Gadot's Diana Prince, thanks to her introduction in BVS.
