MK (Seyfried) goes to live with her scientist father (Sudeikis), who is obsessed with his search for tiny beings in the forest. But it’s MK who first encounters one and is shrunk to join them, just as the minute civilisation is attacked by the evil Mandra

A teenaged girl discovers a world of little people in this fun animation based on William Joyce’s book. Amanda Seyfried voices Mary Katherine, a feisty girl who despairs of her obsessive biologist father – until she’s shrunk to the size of an insect and thrown into the middle of a battle between good and evil. The story’s familiar but suspenseful and the characters well drawn in both senses – even the comedy sidekicks should appeal to parents as well as kids (step forward Chris O’Dowd and Judah Friedlander as a snail and slug respectively). Good solid family entertainment.

While it’s not a crossover classic, this has enough wit and charm to entertain both big and little people.
