Musicals based on movies are nothing new – School Of Rock and Amélie are among those running right now – but you might not have foreseen 2006's The Devil Wears Prada making the leap. And yet it is, with a production headed to Broadway featuring music from Elton John and Paul Rudnick.

Originally based on Lauren Weisberger's 2003 book, the story followed Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway), college graduate and aspiring journalist in need of money who reluctantly takes a job as assistant to the formidable Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), editor-in-chief of fashion magazine Runway.

“Re-imagining The Devil Wears Prada for the musical theatre is super exciting,” John says. “I’m a huge fan of both the book and the feature film, and a huge aficionado of the fashion world. I can’t wait to sink my musical teeth into this hunk of popular culture.” Fox Stage Productions and his Rocket Entertainment company are producing this one, but have yet to release details of when work might kick off. And there's no casting yet, but can you imagine someone trying to step into Streep's shoes? We can picture the actress herself giving it a shot, and someone is probably already starting to engrave a Tony for her.
