JLo has a big bottom. Meet The Parents had a cat in it. Such are the startling observations this rom-com spoof from the Scary Movie team has to make. Mixing up its references to a distracting degree, this sees plump, lovelorn Julia Jones (Alyson Hannigan) made over by a Pimp My Ride-style team, meeting upper crust Englishman Grant (Adam Campbell) on a reality TV show and introducing her multi-cultural parents to Grant’s hippy family.

Were these references exploited with an eye for sharp observational humour, this might have something to offer beyond gross-out gags, but Date Movie generally favours the cat pooing/spot squeezing brand of comedy. Jennifer Coolidge’s Barbra Streisand impression may amuse some, but Date Movie still labours under the mistaken impression that exaggerated mimicry alone is enough to entertain.

A lowest common denominator spoof: think Scary Movie 2 (yes, 2) does rom com with occasional random cameos from Napoleon Dynamite/Michael Jackson impressionists.
