Given all the chatter about Daisy Ridley being the possible new Lara Croft in Tomb Raider, it's almost surprising to hear that someone else has actually snagged the role. But signs that Ridley has been lining up other movies pointed to the likelihood that she wasn't doing it and, like Lara herself swinging in on a rope across a chasm, here comes Alicia Vikander, who will be playing the part.

Warner Bros. and GK Films have The Wave's Roar Uthaug on board to direct the reboot, which will take the concept of Lara's adventurous life from the video games and, like the 2013 version of the game, spins the clock back to her earlier, untested days. So Vikander will be a young Croft looking to survive her first adventure.

Not much else is known about the film, though Evan Daugherty and Geneva Robertson-Dworet have worked on the script.

It's another big move for Vikander, who has been enjoying a rising star career and won an Oscar this year for her role in The Danish Girl. She'll be seen next in Jason Bourne, which is out on July 29, and The Light Between Oceans, arriving on January 6 next year.
