A horror casting coup (Vincent Price! Peter Lorre! Boris Karloff!) curdles into groans in Jacques Tourneur’s undertaker comedy. The script just isn’t funny, and Tourneur overcompensates in a tizzy of sped-up slapstick. It was Lorre’s final film, and a tad undignified, like fitting a coffin with an ejector seat.
