Following the death of his mother, wrong-side-of-the-tracks kid Stet (Wareing) is sent to the American Boychoir School by caring headmistress Debra Winger due to his angelic voice. What follows is a predictable if likable tale of Stet battling with posho kids who cheat, earning the respect of choirmaster Dustin Hoffman and reconnecting with the dad who disowned him (Josh Lucas).

It’s obvious and mechanical but nicely played by all, has an impressive chilly look and the music is mostly sublime. It might be the most middlebrow movie of 2015 but it’s not without its charms.
