A young, bearded Ben Affleck heads the cast here as a comic book creator who falls for fellow scribbler Alyssa (Joey Lauren Adams), only to discover she prefers the company of women. Undeterred, he still sets out to win her heart, but finds himself running the risk of losing not just Alyssa but also his best friend and collaborator Banky (Jason Lee) as well.
While this bears all the hallmarks of a Kevin Smith comedy - from the inevitable appearance of Jay and Silent Bob, through to conversations about Star Wars (the Darth Vader / African-American analysis is screamingly funny) and sex - it also has a poignant, thought-provoking side which renders it a cut above your average bland rom-com.
