Original Title:

Broken Circle Breakdown, The

Country & Western meets family drama in this Belgian film, as a singing couple’s marriage is strained unbearably by their child’s illness. Some developments feel forced and unconvincing; the way the relationship shows through the stage duets is far more affecting.

Plot contrivances aside, it's easy to see why this Belgian drama, powerfully sound-tracked by bluegrass tunes, has seduced festival crowds.
