If you're looking for a place where Ruby Wax, Lord Denning and Brian Eno collide after hours, this documentary on sculptor/artist Andrew Logan and his Alternative Miss World competition is probably your only bet. To say it illustrates the ‘novel’ history of some (loosely termed) costumes and contenders over the past 40 years is an understatement — as a vision, the Alternative Miss World idea makes DalÍ look like a painter decorator. It is what fans might dream Ab Fab would resemble if it were real life: fashionistas, garish outfits, Richard O’Brien, Simon Callow, Julian Clary… The cinematic event of the year, sweetie. Except it’s not. A hoot, nonetheless.
