What The Bleep Do We Know? Review

Scientists of varying degrees of expertise discuss quantum physics, before the conversation starts to shift to dodgier areas.

This digital docu-drama has been hailed as “inspiring” by the likes of Madonna, which should start the cult warning bells ringing. Loosely claiming to tackle quantum physics, it opens with intriguing references to parallel universes, courtesy of scientists later revealed to have wildly varying degrees of expertise. The corresponding dramatisation about an unhappy photographer (Matlin) touches on some interesting philosophical ideas, but it’s poorly-produced and unclear in tone.

As the discussion moves from science to pop psychology, the film’s endorsement of Ramtha’s School Of Enlightenment and its simplistic self-improvement mantra becomes clear. Let’s hope the Brits prove more immune than the Americans to this one.
