Just nominated for a Golden Globe for his Black Panther soundtrack, as well as having also recently scored Creed II and Venom, composer Ludwig Göransson is now heading for the most iconic musical galaxy of all. He's signed on to write the music for Jon Favreau's hotly anticipated Disney+ Star Wars series The Mandalorian.

Göransson previously also wrote the scores for Ryan Coogler's original Creed and Fruitvale Station, and is currently sitting on three Grammy nominations for his Childish Gambino work with Donald Glover.

"Words fail to express how surreal and humbling it feels to be invited into the Star Wars universe," Göransson says. "I am deeply grateful to Jon Favreau and Disney for this opportunity and to John Williams for raising the bar so high with his iconic, intrepid scores — they will never be matched. In these next months, I hope to honor the tradition of Star Wars’ musical landscape while propelling The Mandalorian into new and unchartered territory. And I will try to remember that there is no try."

Pedro Pascal is the star of the show, playing the titular Mandalorian, a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy. Also in the cast are Gina Carano, Nick Nolte, Giancarlo Esposito, Carl Weathers and, peculiarly, Werner Herzog, plus new names Emily Swallow and Omid Abtahi.

Set in the time between the fall of the Empire in Return Of The Jedi and the rise of the First Order in The Force Awakens, The Mandalorian will peek into unexplored corners of the Star Wars galaxy. "We’re having a great time working with this incredibly talented group and excited for everyone to see what we’re up to," says exec-producer Favreau. He's overseen the writing, with the directing pool including Dave Filoni, Taika Waititi and Bryce Dallas Howard.

Scheduled to start running on the Disney+ streaming service next year, the show has been shooting for a while.
