After the animated opening, this Danish oddity starts off feeling like yet another European romance, with driven pianist Zetterstrom (Thomsen) falling for the mysterious but loving Andrea (Christensen, in a credible performance).
But things soon take a turn for the weird when, following the end of their affair, an entire district of Copenhagen apparently moves outside of space and time. When Zetterstrom returns years later for a concert, he finds that the secrets to his own past lie inside the Zone, as it is called, and that he must enter it to recover his memory of what he lost.
It’s a fascinating premise, but the execution is muddled – the time line isn’t clear, and too many questions are left unanswered. But good performances, especially from Thomsen, and the sparse but elegant design make this worth a look.
