Misery-magnet Kevin McKidd stars as a roving reporter working on a euthanasia story, who discovers his mother is dying of cancer. Should he pursue a glamorous job in America or stay in Scotland to care for his sister Roberta, who has Down's Syndrome?
McKidd is strong as archetypal hard-nosed journo Kenny, but he's eclipsed by Down's Syndrome actress Paula Sage, whose character drives both plot and humour. Whether putting Kenny in his place with bolshy comebacks or knowingly colluding with her mother to get benefits from Social Services by "acting stupid", Roberta comically challenges presumptions and provokes curiosity about the contradictions of Down's.
