INSIDE THE ISSUE

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER
This month's cover movie is Marvel's super-soldier-serum-sequel, the paranoia-thriller sequel to a World War II romp. So how does Chris Evans' Steve Rogers fit into the modern world? And what is SHIELD up to that has him worried? We spoke to the cast and crew on set to bring you the story, along with exclusive new images from the film.

THE GREATEST... OPENING SCENES
2014 marks Empire's 25th birthday, and we'll be celebrating all year with some of the biggest and best film exclusives you've ever seen. We're also marking the occasion, however, with a series of celebrations of the last quarter-century, starting with this look at the 25 greatest opening scenes of our lifetime. Start as you mean to go on, right?

DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES
Andy Serkis is back in a onesie, which can mean only one thing: it's couch potato time the Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes sequel is almost here. Director Matt Reeves, who has wanted to actually be an ape all his life, explains his take, and what we can expect from the next step in ape evolution.

THE MONUMENTS MEN
One of the greatest casts we've ever seen (Clooney! Blanchett! Damon! Murray! Goodman! Dujardin! And so on!) talk us through the new film from George Clooney, director. It's a men-on-a-mission movie, but in contrast to, say, Saving Private Ryan, this mission is a Manet. And, er, also lots of other artists.

DIVERGENT
Shailene Woodley stars in this latest young adult adaptation, a Hunger Games-esque story of violence, dystopia and a girl caught in the centre of a maelstrom. "It's very violent. We're shooting guns. There's death," the star told us, while explaining just what's going to set this one apart.

GODZILLA
Gareth Edwards already impressed this month with the teaser trailer for his monster follow-up to Monsters, but he has some further news on the film in the new issue, where he explains just where Godzilla's look originated, and what we can expect from the reborn beast.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2
Time to focus on the bad guy just a little bit: we sat down with Jamie Foxx, director Marc Webb and Spider-Man Andrew Garfield to get the full story behind this film's misunderstood maniac, Electro. Where did he come from, what does he want, and is he really more of a tragic figure, as Garfield claims?

TEH HUNGER GAMES - MOCKINGJAY PART 1
Sam Claflin and Jena Malone managed to make an impact in this year's Catching Fire, despite being the new kids on the Hunger-block and up against the most popular actress in the world. So what will we be seeing from them in the two-part finale to the series? We investigated, and ended up talking bitchiness, self-deprecation and walking around topless.

EXODUS
Usually when we say something is "Biblical" in scale, we just mean big. With Ridley Scott's next film, it's a little more literal as Christian Bale dons Charlton Heston's mantel and tells Joel Edgerton to let his people go. Holy Moses! This is going to be massive.

ROBOCOP
Jose Padilha talks us through his reboot's hardware, from Robocop's armour ("Don't call it a suit!") and gun to the ED-208 and ED-209. "He's like a Coca-Cola bottle - he has to be attractive," says Padilha. Not easy for a guy who has very few human parts left.

LEONARDO DICAPRIO
He's one of the best actors currently working, and increasingly one of the more influential producers around as well. On The Wolf Of Wall Street, his fifth collaboration with Martin Scorsese, he is both, and we sat down with the star recently to find out why they work together so well...

SCARFACE
In 1983, Scarface was Hollywood's problem child, a risky proposition for all involved. Now, of course, it's a pop-culture perennial, and 30 years on we talked to Al Pacino, Michelle Pfeiffer, director Brian De Palma, screenwriter Oliver Stone nad many more of the cast to get the full, amazing story behind the film...

ON LOCATION
We brave swords, arrows and abs to report from the set of 300: Rise Of An Empire, just as Eva Green splits a guy's head open with her sword; hang out with Pierce Brosnan on set of A Long Way Down and talk to Russell Crowe on A New York Winter's Tale, thereby running the gauntlet from near-naked film stars to heavily fur-clad ones.

SLATE
This month, we kick things off with Wonder Woman, get Spock (aka Zachary Quinto) to tell us the price of a Pint of Milk, take a look at Clint Eastwood's Jersey Boys, talk to the reassembled Pythons about the storied history of the Flying Circus and much, much more...

IN CINEMAS
With a wealth of Oscar contenders landing in cinemas this month, it's a heck of a time to go to the cinema - or indeed our reviews section. Inside Llewyn Davis, The Wolf Of Wall Street, 12 Years A Slave and American Hustle all feature, along with the less Oscar-y likes of Last Vegas. Get it, read it, plan your month's viewing around it.

RE-VIEW
Rush holds the pole position in our home entertainment section this month, appropriately enough. But screaming in behind it are a masterpiece look at Sex Lies & Videotape, Roland Emmerich answering our Movie Mastermind quiz and a whole lot more.
