My Life In Soundtracks: Edgar Wright

The first soundtrack I bought...

My parents bought me and my brother the soundtracks to 'Star Wars' and 'Empire Strikes Back' on LP. I think my favourite cue was 'Ben's Death & Tie Fighter Attack'. Then I'm pretty sure I bought 'Ghostbusters' on vinyl with my own pocket money. I did like 'Cleaning Up The Town' by The Busboys as a kid. I also owned the amazing funereal score to 'The Black Hole' by John Barry. Still a favourite now.

The soundtrack that most inspired me...

I think Lalo Schifrin's 'Dirty Harry' soundtrack might be my favourite score. But then Goblin soundtracks to 'Dawn Of The Dead', 'Suspiria' and 'Deep Red' were the music we listened to when writing 'Shaun Of The Dead'. John Carpenter's scores were also a big influence; 'Assault On Precinct 13', 'The Fog' and especially the classic 'Halloween' theme.

Soundtrack currently on heavy rotation...
Listening a lot to the 'Django Unchained' and 'Moonrise Kingdom' soundtracks. Loving Jim Croce's 'I Got A Name' from the former and 'Friday Afternoons Op 7: Cuckoo' from the latter.

My soundtrack guilty pleasure...

Listen to 'Milkshake' by The Village People from the 'Can't Stop The Music' soundtrack. Silliest song ever.

Favourite song from a musical

It has to be 'So You Wanna Be A Boxer' from Bugsy Malone. Love Paul Williams. I want this played at my funeral. When it will have been long established that I was never actually a boxer.
