John Hawkes And Helen Hunt On The Sessions Actor and his Oscar-nominated co-star on the drama

| |
Last time we chatted with John Hawkes, he was talking Martha Marcy May Marlene. In it he played a cult leader who provides an unnervingly predatorial presence in the lives of his devotees. By contrast, his character in The Sessions, a quadriplegic poet called Mark O'Brien, is waaay down the other end of the spectrum. O'Brien is still a virgin and determined to change that, with the help of Helen Hunt's sex surrogate, Cheryl Cohen-Greene. Perhaps surprisingly, Hunt was the one who picked up the Oscar love, with a nomination for Best Supporting Actress, although both excel. We asked them both to tell us about making the movie.
