James Murphy Talks Shut Up And The Play The Hits 'I like doing things my own way'

| |
When Empire met LCD Soundsystem frontman - sorry, ex-LCD Soundsystem frontman - James Murphy to chat about the new documentary / concert film charting the aftermath (and before-math) of the band's final gig at Madison Square Garden, he was nursing a dicky ankle and confined to his leather chair. His Orson Welles moment seemed apt bearing in mind Shut Up And Play The Hits' mournful ruminations on moving on. The movie isn't all about getting on a bit, though. The gig footage, shot partly by LCD video director Spike Jonze, is epic. We found out what Jonze brought to the table, chatted about Murphy's film score work, and got the low-down on LCD Soundsystem's tour bus viewing of choice.
