Lumines Review

Lumines

A dynamic puzzle game from the twisted genius behind Rez and Space Channel 5, Lumines is to the PSP what Tetris was to the Game Boy.

Although the action looks similar to Alexey Pajitnov’s evergreen block-dropper, players are challenged to match colours rather than slot together shapes, creating gaudy rectangles that are swept away by a wiper that intermittently passes across the screen. But whereas Tetris was a mesmerising game to play but a dog to look at, Lumines ups the ante with dazzling special effects and a sophisticated soundtrack from Japanese club maestro Mondo Grosso, creating a surreal and frankly trippy experience that perfectly suits the addictive nature of this stylish puzzler.
