Film synopsis 1841. A gifted violinist and family man living in Saratoga, Solomon Northup (Ejiofor) is lured to Washington, D. C. by two entertainers promising work. Yet after a night of carousing, Northup wakes up in chains and is sold into a life of slavery.

Absolutely Incredible. It's the sort of movie that makes you feel lost for words as the credits roll.  More

Have just seen this movie here in Seattle and have to say it doesn't deserve the best picture (drama) nod from the Globes. Powerful subject matter and great performances sure, but weak direction and average cinematography make this a 3 star movie. This is a shame as it could have packed the punch it deserves to with a more experienced director.  More
