Managed to watch it and it is not good. It looks incredible and the score is as good as Drive, but apart from that, it's hollow. The violence is ridiculously nasty and off putting, even for hardened viewers, and the characters are terrible. Gosling is given nothing to work with, and I love him as an actor but he's just not good in this film, while the rest of the characters are just unpleasant people. It's not quite as bad as most say, but it is pretty rubbish and incredibly disappointing; two s More

It's so dull. Like Heaven's Gate dull. In fact that maybe being unfair to Heaven's Gate. The awkward dialogue and long periods of silence feel like it's being directed by a student who has seen Eraserhead a million times and is desperate to emulate it. To say it's a bad movie suggests it might have some entertainment value; it doesn't. It's not bad, it's just boring. Biggest disappointment of the year
How did it all go so wrong? A fearless director and the hottest actor around at the moment together so soon after their masterpiece Drive - surely it can't fail? Only God Forgives is so pretentious and full of repetitive shots of hands and Gos slowly turning his head bathed in red light that it has to be considered arty...unfortunately at times it feels like it some sort of parody of Drive.
