Film synopsis The story follows schoolboy Kay Harker who, on returning from boarding school for the Christmas holidays, meets an old Punch & Judy man called Cole Hawlings. Hawlings is being chased by a wizard called Abner Brown and his gang, and entrusts the treasure that the gang is after, the titular box, to Kay for safekeeping. The box, it emerges, allows its owner to shrink, fly and travel into the past.

I remember watching the BBC series when it first aired in 1984 and found it to be a classic and the one programme that I will forever remember.I got hold of the DVD of it only the other year and always watch it on the approach to christmas and then it goes away until the following year. If Mike Newell can do the same justice to the story that the BBC did a whole new group of children will be able to call this film a classic and will have the same fond memories of it that I had of the BBC version More

my favourite childhood adaptions was the BBC tv version and the book is a great read, if this is done right, it'll wipe Harry Potter of the map.t="trebuchet ms"] Can't wait.  More
