Thumbs Up
ot back from a preview and I really quite enjoyed it. Had the benefit for a Q&A with Kapur and Rush afterwards in which the former talked about his desires for a mythic (as opposed to melodramatic) quality to the film and he certainly achieved it. All the acting was great, even Clive Owen, who I usually find a bit wooden. (So shoot me. And okay, he was great in Children of Men, I'll give you that.) Some great lines, as well.  The one with the "bitches" springs to mind. ... Read More

The Golden Age...Indeed
Well I have just come back from the cinema, With thanks to Empire for the free tickets. All I can say is wow. The acting was spot on, the music was gorgeous. Cive Owen is a great Walter Rayliegh. I really enjoyed this movie, thought it was well thought out. Showing Elizabeth I as not only a great leader, but some one that is also just a woman, longing for the touch of a man. We all know what happened to Dudley... The Spanish Armarda is very well done and even better when it is dest... Read More

RE: Elizabeth: The Golden Age
Looking forward to this especially as I watched some of the filming last Summer as some pals of mine from the Forestry Commission were extras cutting down trees for the Armada in the "Spanish" woods (actually the same woods they used in Gladiator!) Also they filmed a scene of boatbuilding on Frensham Pond. The ships were to be CGIed in later. Heres a short vid I took: uk.youtube.com/watch?v=pHAiHu_AA9gp; ... Read More

Well the first wasn't exactly accurate and it looks like in this Francis Drake has become Sir Walter Ralegh ....but on the whole, it should be fairly accurate.....from the English point of view. ... Read More

RE: Elizabeth: The Golden Age
Saw Atonement last night (great film) and saw the longest trailer ever for The Golden Age. I swear it was 5mins long. Was still great but showed far too much. Anyway, the website is now up; http://www.elizabeththegoldenage.net/ AND Kapur has said he'd like to do a third film about the last days of Elizabeth's reign. director, who waited almost 10 years to make the first follow-up to 1998's Elizabeth, tells AFP that he already has ideas about how a third film would fit into the ... Read More
