I was surprised at how much I loved this film when i first saw it. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it half as much as I did. I got very upset when Dina Meyer died though and she said " it's ok because I had you". Sucky girly moment admidst all the action. Love it

A line from the book of "The Most Hidieous Cheesy Lines... Ever" coupled with one of the most over-the top and poorly acted death scenes to grace celluloid! That's what makes Starship Troopers brilliant...

I watched it last night expecting great things after the praise it has received from here and other places but I was left feeling disappointed and confused. The fact that the effects were top notch (especially for the year it was made), I can assume it was taking itself seriously, but then I don't understand the poor acting, cheap set/wardrobe design and shit dialogue (but sometimes amusing). I just didn't know where I stood with it and I'm not sure it knew what it wanted to be. There was just as much on the romance/friendship plot as there was the whole bug thing, which leads me to believe that they thought it was important/moving - and not just a background to the sci-fi action.

Go back and read my review Castor - it explains all!

Watch this film if you haven't had your brain sucked by brain bug. Do your part.

Saw this on TV the other night and was reminded how great it is.  A question though.  The female soldier appearing in the above section of film looks (to me) like Jessica Alba.  Can anyone confirm or deny whether its her?

It's a much smarter film than it gets credit for - no one writes ultra-violent Sci-Fi satire like Ed Neumeier, and I guess the film's politics boil down to who are the real Fascists? The scary, insectoid aliens, or us for trying to wipe them all out without negotiation? It was easy to forgive Verhoeven for Showgirls after this...

I agree

Great film

I can neither confirm or deny (but it gives me a great excuse to bump this thread back up...)

..and neither can i for that matter but i also think this film & thread is worthy of further bumping.

Although Casper Van Dien is a bit wooden and cheesey he's still kind of note perfect for that particular role!

It's also got Doogie Howser MD as a Telepathic Nazi general geezer who can talk to bugs. Genius!!!!!!!!

Only rewatched this fantastic movie a couple of days ago and it is surprising how well the effects have held up. DVD is still the only decent format to watch it on because it is one of those classic types of films that must be avoid on the tv showing at all costs, due to hideous cuts.

Great effects, bad acting, corny lines and superb creatures make this one of the best B-movies of all time.

What's not to love?
Giant bugs, limbs being ripped off, cheesy lines, King of the B's Michael Ironside, nakedness, explosions and orange/green gunge?

Sod your French art films and Kurosawa.........Starship Troopers rocks, man.

The scene where those kids are stamping on cockroachs and that woman is just laughing maniacally at them always cracks me up.
