I have listened to it about 3 times now and find it more immediately likable than You Know My Name compared to when I first heard that it took seeing it in context of the opening credits of CR to start to get into it, but this sounds great and two voices (yes, also known as a duet.. blabla) works well too.

Thoughts people?

Glad to see a couple of people here have listed Surrender by KD Lang.

Much more Bondish (Bondian? Bondesque?) than Sheryl Crow's title song at the beginning. The two should have been swapped around IMO.

I like it, like the best themes it sounds like the artists involved, but is repsectful to the Bond Theme History. A Winner.

The first time I heard it, I wondered what on earth Alicia Keys was doing there, she didn't seem to fit in well at all.  But I've heard it a couple more times now and I absolutely love it.  I guess if you don't like the White Stripes you'll find plenty to moan about (love the little guitar stabs!) but I think its excellent and can't wait to hear it on the opening credits.

 I love it too. Definitely a grower. I just wish people would stop whining about it, saying they should bring back Shirley Bassey. For the last time, her music wouldn't fit the newer Bonds. The old Bonds spanned 20 films and 40 years. That's enough for anyone.

Can't wait to see the opening credits. I loved Casino Royale's so fingers crossed for equal greatness!

And Silias, I think we all can agree that you are not a fan of new era bond, and your sentiments are as old as Roger Moore, so why don't you put on The Spy Who Loved me and continue wanking into a flannel.

 Good song - not sure whether it's a good Bond song though. More like a good song with Bond-like strings and horns added as well as the words 'trigger', 'die' and such like to make it slightly more relevant. White should have let Keys take it on her own as well. Maybe I just need to get out of the old-Bond mindset, but if that's the case, then the new song doesn't help by being written in exactly the same vein as the old songs and simply replacing strings with guitars. The last top notch one I heard was Sheryl Crow's Tomorrow Never Dies theme, but I did enjoy Cornell's.

My ranking of Bond songs with vocals, from best to worst:
24. Die Another Day-horrible lyrics and vocals
23. Never Say Never Again-who hired Lani Hall?
22. For Your Eyes Only-stupid fake melodrama
21. The Man With The Golden Gun-it's hard to incorporate this title in a song, but the vocals are meh and the instrumental is below average for the master Barry
20. All Time High-not very Bondian but OK
19. License To Kill-used to really hate it, now it's just meh
18. The World Is Not Enough-likewise
17. Tomorrow Never Dies-I actually don't mind the vocals
16. Another Way To Die-I like the guitar and drums. Better not mention Keys though.
15. From Russia With Love-The instrumental is much superior
14. Casino Royale 1967-60s craziness
13. GoldenEye-good, but overrated
12. You Know My Name-same
11. Underneath The Mango Tree-love the lyrics
10. A View To A Kill-from here on all deserve at least 9/10, but I just listened to this too often
09. Thunderball-epic
08. Moonraker-Bassey is one of the best things about the franchise's music and I actually like the lyrics although they're completely unrelated to the film
07. The Living Daylights-not a fan of a-ha but Barry's score for TLD is one of the best ever and it shows in the song
06. Nobody Does It Better-used to be #2 but I still love it, a Bond anthem
05. Diamonds Are Forever-great lyrics and the instrumental, too, although it's a bit dated
04. We Have All The Time In The World-it's Armstrong
03. You Only Live Twice-perfect
02. Live And Let Die-likewise, but a little bit more fun
01. Goldfinger-I'm biased as it is my favourite Bond film but I do believe the song is flawless

Quite a fan of Bond Themes is I...
Personally, I LOVE Licence To Kill, Live And Let Die and Thunderball because they are so EPIC!!
Of course, Dame Shirley's are legendary too, cannot forget THAT note at the end of Goldfinger.
The modern ones aren't bad - I guess - but nothing beats a good 80s James Bond theme: CLASSIC!

As for the worst?

From Russia With Love or The Man With The Golden Gun, I think
Not that this is impotant...

Goldeneye (one of the coolest Bond openings ever, and Tina Turner is just cool)
Nobody Does it Better (perfect Bond song)
The World Is Not Enough ( I love the instrumental going into the song, and the lyrics are perfect for Bond)
You Know My Name ( I just like Chris Cornell's voice)
Live and Let Die (it's so dated, but so cool Paul McCartney's awesome)

Worst:
We Have All the Time in The World (um, no we don't because Bond is a secret agent on a mission)
From Russia With Love ( just too slow for me)
All Time High (not very Bondish to me)
Diamonds Are Forever (the chorus is too repetitive)
License To Kill (considering the movie was one of Bond's grittiest and the song is very slow)

What song did Alan Partridge sing and act too. It was when someone poured OJ all over his Bond vids. He acted out all the animated women. So funny. Diamonds are forever for me though closely followed by Live and let Die. Goldeneye though; really?

American composer Thomas Newman will be scoring the new James Bond film, "Skyfall", due out later this year. It will be his first 007 adventure.

Newman has been a long time collaborator with "Skyfall" helmer Sam Mendes, having scored four of the directors other films: "American Beauty" (1999), "Road to Perdition" (2002) [which also starred Daniel Craig], "Jarhead" (2005) and "Revolutionary Road" (2008).

That was the one with Jack White right? Ugh that was AWFUL! Especially when I knew that it was originally supposed to be White and Amy Winehouse. Is it just me or does Alica Keys sing that whole song out of tune?! Almost puts the movie to shame!
I think a Bond soundtrack with Winehouse would have been epic. Such a shame that the chance is gone now 

As for the best Bond theme songs, my personal favourite would be Live and Let Die. Diamonds are forever is also awesome. But many of them are simply classics so it is hard to pick just one.
