 Moses and Sturridge should get a run of games...agree with what Gary Neville said the other night about the amount of time on the pitch for our front 4 players compared to that of City and Utd. It's been far greater and it's showing already...time for a bit of rotating I think

I agree with Moses, less so Sturridge but that's only because I think he's been mostly useless of late when he has been on the pitch. Still Torres gor bless 'im hasn't been much better. I thought Oscar was again sublime at times tonight.

 Essentially meaningless. But as poor imp has spent the season bemoaning the Chelsea defense, this is where you are in the PL in the goals against category. Quite stingy really.

Essentially you are 4th in one table and 2nd in the other. As I said, meaningless. I hadn't realised quite how many goals Southampton had shipped before I looked at this. Or how few comparatively Newcastle are scoring with a team with Ba, Cisse and Ben Arfa on attack.

I bemoan Chelsea all the time, being a pessimist I can't help it. Though as you say it is meaningless I am surprised. It isn't the conceding as such but the manner, often farcical. Against quality attacking teams we look weak and though we obviously can produce it's a bit pointless when we're leaky at the back and are failing to hold onto leads.

Well the Torres goal was a howler back for you last night

But the first goal for Shakhtar was typical lax Chelsea defending imo. I don't remember the details from the highlights I saw, but one of your defensive midfielders is easily beaten. Essentially because a Shakhtar runner (Abba's Fernandinho) has not been picked up around 35 yards out from goal (note I think that Ryan Bertrand at the moment looks much better to me going forward than defending and he could have helped out more in this one). A second Chelsea player (Cahill I guess) is then put on his arse and there's actually a shooting chance, but Luiz is coming across to cover this.

There are a number of Chelsea players in the box. But none of them are getting close to Fernandinho to close him down and it looked to me like Cahill having got up was having a bit of a jog. The cross from the byline isn't cut out. And we have Will.i.an steaming in totally unmarked and able to pass the ball into the net. While again it looked like a couple of Chelsea players were jogging into picture.

The comedy goals I could let go. But there just seems to be sometimes a real lack of hard work and effort on Chelsea's part to stop these opportunities occuring.

Partly true... but I was at the game last night and I have to say what a wonderful team Shakhtar Donetsk are.

They would have scored against any PL team. They're attacking play was outstanding and their movement and invention was incredible... so let's not get carried away and say it was all down to Chelsea's poor defence again, especially as we were without 2 first choice defenders.

We had to play like an away side at times just to contend with the waves of attack.... and the most worrying thing is that we don't appear to be able to cope with wides crosses into the box when Terry isn't playing. The goals we conceded last night were very similar in style to the ones we conceded against Utd.

Mikel actually didn't have a bad game and oddly he kept attacking>?? Ramires was poor though and gave the ball away a lot.

We rode our luck but never gave up!

 I'm envious, must have been a cracking game to be at. I hope you didn't leave early to beat the rush.

No doubt that Shakhtar are a good team. And I said before the game I thought Chelsea had the champions mettle to get the result. But the Defense can't stand off teams like they did in that example. In the CL almost all the teams are confident in passing it around and looking for the opportunity. And an increasing amount of PL teams can pass and press. Saltire and I saw Swansea taking points off Chelsea this way and they did. The next 3 PL games are also against passing teams, Liverpool, WBA and City. It's not an easy little run that Chelsea have now. I'm not saying they can't get 9 points, but I feel they'll have to work harder with more organisation than I've seen lately to get them.

I do agree that there will be more organisation and plain getting stuck in commitment when JT comes back.

To be honest, I think our new attacking style will leave us more open (much like Barca)

The defence will come good hopefully... we just need a hell of a lot more urgency about us.

Believe me, I'm very happy as a neutral punter for Chelsea games to have multiple goals at each end. But I worry about poor imp putting something through her TV with all these defensive lapses.

I get the idea about being more open if you are playing a more attacking style. I think this is what will make the Liverpool game exciting. Both teams will be trying to move the ball forwards quickly, which will result in errors and then chances for the other team. At least I hope this is how Liverpool play rather than the slow, sideways passing build up as I think it is their best chance of scoring against Chelsea.

What I worry about is that even if a team builds up slowly, you still look to have players out of position. In the league then most teams Chelsea will score more than the opposition. But there will be days when the ball doesn't find the back of the net or opponents who can play on the attack and defend and these will be a problem.

I'm afraid you wont convince me Mikel is a good player, even if he had a good game. In fact, I think he's dangerous in that he can have one good game in 5 (like Sturridge) and that encourages the fans to keep with him as he might come good and just needs a run in the team, etc.

Falcao is class, i'd love to see him playing in the Prem.

Every goal we are conceding at the moment is a straight forward cross that we can't clear... Jesus, I knew Terry was important for the organisation at the back, but this is pathetic. Luis has been awful.
