Body Heat (1981) Positives: - It's Film Noir. This is modern noir known as Neo-Noir. - This is so Noir. The dialogue, characters, story, and setting. I love that. - William Hurt's in it. One of the best living american actors to date. He doesn't fulter here, as usual he's brilliant here. - Lawrance Kasdan's script and dialogue is top notch here, as well as his direction. Everything fits nicely together here. - Kathleen Turner is perfect for her role. She's the typical femme fatal you find in a Film Noir picture. Great performance. - Grand musical score that sets the heat of the picture. - The cinematography and editing flow perfectly, with long fluid takes. - That memorable line by Turner: "You're not too smart, are you? I like that in a man." - The ending is so brilliant. Very surprising. Negatives: - This is more raunchy than the average Film Noir. Not one to watch with the kids. - Youngsters viewers might find the dialogue confusing. If you love Noir, you'll love the dialogue. - Alot of shagging. Marked as an "Erotic Thriller", when people read that, they might avoid it. The shagging aint explecit. - The ending keeps you itching for more. Film Noir fans will not be dissapointed with this Noir gem. It features all the elements on why we love the genre: Lucious story, juicy dialogue, atmospheric setting, simple yet engaging cinematography, the "dame" that keeps the protaganist going, classic "jazzy" film score, and of course, the twist and turns we never thought of seeing. Lawrance Kasdan really hit this one for six. He writes masterfully as well as directing, but most definatley his writing towers above everything else. His writting gives the characters so much life and vibe, a perfect script storywise and dialogue related, it's a film fanatic's dream come true. Of course there's the leading cast, with riveting performances by Turner and Hurt. William Hurt is the stand out here, he proves here why he's one of the finest living actors of the past century, a true performer, he does not pull a bad move once here, simply perfect acting all round from everyone. So, if you're looking for a film that will grab your attention, this is it. A completely unpredictable story with fantastic twist and turns, this will quench your thirst for good ol' Noir. Final Score: ****
