Hey guys - we're embarking on something very ambitious this weekend, and we want to invite you to join in. Here's the official blurb.

Vaguely hot on the heels of 2005's Star Wars saga-thon, we've decided to do it again – with a twist. In the lead up to Casino Royale and a new Bond age (tee hee) and in the spirit of foolish behaviour for your amusement, three brave Empire writers – Chris Hewitt, Sam Toy and Nick De Semlyen – will be attempting to get through every 'official' Bond film consecutively. And this time, we're giving you lot the chance to join us – not physically, you understand, there's only so much room on the sofa. But we're hoping that there are Empire readers out there who will be willing to endure the Bond marathon at exactly the same time as us, starting from noon on Saturday, and keep in touch with us via the medium of our wonderful forums.

The rules are simple. We kick off at noon with Dr. No and finish, God willing, on Monday morning around 6.40am. We're allowing five minute gaps between each film, while every five films brings a 20-minute break. No sleeping is allowed, and the only drugs permitted are caffeine and Pro Plus. Empire readers can either choose to try to stay with us for the duration, or dip in and out for their favourite movies.

The schedule is below. For this to really work, we want you to sync up the movies with us, so if we start, for example, Diamonds Are Forever at twenty minutes past midnight on Sunday October 1, then so should you, goddammit! Feeling brave? Or just want to laugh at three foolhardy souls who will probably fail in their attempt… or die trying (probably of food poisoning from too many snacks)? Then log onto the our forums – Movie Musings, to be specific – on Saturday from 11am (the big kick-off is at 12) and join us for your favourite film, a best bit, or if you're feeling really brave, the full 007 experience. We'll be expecting you…

That sounds awesome. I'd love to, but all my DVDs are at home . Will there be a booklet like you did with the Star Wars marathon? Anyway, to all those who take part: Enjoy .

An admirable endeavour, but I guarantee you'll be beyond the edge of sanity by the time you're halfway through the Moore years.

We're sticking to official Bonds, so no Never Say Never Again or the original Casino Royale. And yes, we know that we're in for some major psychological damage with this. That's why we're doing this as a trio - and hopefully with the support of the Empire faithful!

 I would love to join in but there is no way on gods earth i could sit through Roger Moore's latter Bond films without a spliff or 3 to numb the pain, caffine and Pro-Plus just won't cut it sorry.

Just to reiterate, we're not expecting readers to stick with the whole thing. That's our cross, and we have to bear it. But please do drop by for your favourite Bond flick (or three, or four), or maybe even your favourite Bond actor. For example, why not sync up with our Connery arc, or the Brosnans, or (easy, this) the Daltons? You don't have to watch them all - just dip in and out, and keep us informed via this forum.

Poignant that all the "suicidal titles" are on the Monday  I feel for Empire staff everywhere.

Although after such a tiring experience you will have to sit through Die Another Day when you are at your most vunerable. I fear for you.
Also any thoughts on hooking up a webcam or something so we can track your progress more visually? Not that i'm saying you might fall asleep and then lie about it, mind you....

 Just make sure you don't accidentally pour Sunny Delight all over your videos (although I imagine you have some hardier DVDs these days) and record over The Spy Who Loved Me with America's Greatest Storms like Alan Partridge and then be forced to perform it out instead.

A webcam is being explored. It probably won't happen, though. I'm not sure I want people to see what I look like after two days without sleep.

Also... we will be keeping in touch with readers on the forums, thus requiring us to stay awake. I'm not entirely confident that we can do it, and I'm fully aware that we have the horror of Die Another Day to finish off with. I think I'd rather sit through every Russ Abbot Basildon Bond sketch than that, but rules is rules is rules.

And I haven't just cut and pasted my MySpace reply, either.

Sounds like the most insane thing ever to be dreamt up by half sanes individuals. I would love to join you for the whole session but I don't think my psycho-anaylsis would be too happy. All I can say is, good luck and I hope that the medication afterwards isn't too strong.

Wrenster, the only medication I'm prescribing myself is sleep. Lots of sleep. And maybe some KFC. I may even hit the gym. The thing I'm most annoyed about is missing the Bolton-Liverpool match at noon on Saturday. Oh, and I had karaoke booked for the team on Sunday, and that's a goner, too.

BondvsPredator, look forward to seeing you online for FYEO. Interestingly, that's the film that will herald the 24 hour mark.

 As someone who pretty much hates Bond (with the exception of Live & Let Die - best song, best villains, best villain death, only Bond film [that I can think of] with a twist in the tail), I can't think of anything more soul destroying.............except maybe being forced to watch Trainspotting on a constant loop for the same period of time.

Badir, I do understand that many people don't 'get' Bond (our own Helen is one of them), but Sam, Nick and myself have volunteered for this because we love Bond. But, given that I haven't been able to look at a Star Wars movie since our marathon last year, I'm saying that my love of 007 is about to be cured. Big-time.

Bond is boring. I 'get' it fine, thank you Chris, I just think it's dull formulaic franchise filmmaking at its most cynical. Also, the Bonds? Not that attractive.
