If and when the price drops in the next year or so and there are more exclusive titles I will probably get a PS£. I'm happy with my XBOX 360 at present but I'm sure I'll end up with a one. It does look good but there is nothing going for it at the minute that the 360 doesn't have that I'm bothered about.

I think the concept of an entertainment hub that can be used for 10 or so years is brilliant, and it probably would be a good investment in the long run, but I'm just not impressed at all with PS3. Some of the biggest games, such as GTA IV and Devil May Cry IV, will be available on other consoles; the graphics are pristine but the difference between PS3 and 360 isn't jaw-dropping; and hyped elements of the console, such as the controller and PS3 Home, are ideas which have clearly been nabbed from elsewhere. Plus, good investment or not, there are few people who can afford to spend nearly £500 (console + seperate game) on one purchase.

Well actually if you buy the HD-DVD add on for the 360, it does exactly the same and more, it'll play games, high definition movies, music etc but also on the 360 you can download and watch high definition movies, tv shows and music (videos). Well in America, though if you have a US account you can still do it, and the service is on it's way to the UK. It's also going to be an IPTV set top box too.

As for the 360 and PS3 graphics, the difference between the two actually falls in favour of the 360, the PS3 may be able to produce better in the end, but at the moment if you look at any sites comparing videos or side by side pictures of the 360 and PS3 versions of games the 360 ones look better, mainly because of the lighting effects looking more impressive on the 360.

I reckon the PS3 will be a great machine in a years time when the price has dropped and some bespoke games come out. Im just gobsmacked at Sonys fumbling of the launch.

Oh yeah, and and the controller needs to be sorted.

Reckon so on all counts... I still haven't seen any PS3 ads whatsoever! (apart from one that was linked to on this thread!)

Graphically, Im surprised that the ports from 360 to PS3 look better on the 360 but I think thats more to do with the developer than the machines themselves. The weird thing about the PS3 is that Sony are making it out to be a good investment for the future. Not so, as when the future arrives (whenever that is, lets say 2 years) the price of the PS3 would have dropped and various factory improvments would have been made by then.

Tis more or less true, multi-platform games hitting the PS3 are first generation releases where as those same game developers have had a full year and more to play with the 360 hardware. That gap you currently see with those ports will close eventually.........probably.

That said I still don't see the PS3 putting any immediate distance graphically between istelf and the 360 in the future, for every advantage each consoles speed and architecture offers over the other there's a disadvantage, factor into the equation that the PS3 is notoriously difficult to develop for in comparison to it's competition (which in turn pushes development time and cost up) and I just don't see it pulling any significant ground in the visuals department.

All that aside if it wasn't for the price tag I'd have one, mainly because I'm a high definition whore and the Blu-Ray capabilities of the machine interest me, plus I wouldn't mind a crack at Motorstorm and Restistance, trouble is long-term I can't see myself playing on it a whole lot, GTA aside Sony exclusive titles have rarely held any interest for me and with most of those now jumping ship onto 360 as well I'm struggling to justify even a future, cheaper purchase.

So, I got Motorstorm in the post today but don't get the bloody console until tomorrow! Oh how it teases me in all its shiny packaging and the Blu-Ray goodness within!

Definitely the latter seeing as the PS3 offers nothing that your 360 doesn't apart from two games Motorstorm and Resistance, and if you really wanted to play those you could have waited until the PS3 recieved it's first price drop. But if it's what you want to spend your money on then fair enough and you can at least be cool in your own little world

A fool when you realise that in a months time you're still playing on your 360 more than the PS3.

Wow, that Guy certainly ain't shopping around. If he'd looked around a bit, as you always should on a major purchase of such nature, he'd have got a much better deal.

On the alcohol. Sod the consoles. Reckons another two slabs - three possibly - if he asked nicely at Threshers.

Just sayin.

Wow, you mean you actually managed to get a hold of one? Oh wait, of course you did, because no bugger is buying it!

From BBC News:
quote:

Before the announcement the launch had been in danger of being a little flat.
The queue of gamers seemed small compared to previous launches of consoles and there appeared to be more press, guests and staff than consumers.
Sony still needs to convince the mass market that the PS3 is the console of choice.
And it cannot give away a free HDTV as an incentive to everyone who buys the console.

And far be it from me to cast aspersions about how rich a person has to be to actually afford a PS3...
STEREOTYPE ALERT
quote:

Miles Frost, from Chelsea, in west London, rang his brother, who had decided at the last minute not to queue.
"We are all getting a free HD TV," he said down the phone. "On mum's life, I swear it's true."

Yes, Miles, a new HDTV to add to the other five.

It wouldn't look so convincing with half the amount of crates of Stella Actatwat, so I assume they went for the cheap cooking lager instead.

Id rather buy a trade in GBA and get 20 crates of stella,12 bottles of Captain Morgan, 8 bottles of Absolut and a litre of panda cola. And some crisps.

The Panda Cola would be the clincher for me there.
