A couple of years ago I could explain this (before they restructured the divisions), but now I'm not certain, but this is the general gist of it. (I'll use Miami as an example as they're my team ) http://www.nfl.com/teams/schedule/MIA Easiest rule first: you play each time in your division twice, home and away. (6 games)So that's Buffalo, New England and the NY Jets. Then there's a yearly rota for cross conference, so this year the AFC East teams will play the NFC North, once each. (4 games). Green Bay, Chicago, Minnesota, Detroit. I'm not certain how they decide the home/away games there, probably based on results last year. The next is the interconferece matches, where it's based on a seeding system from last year, poorer teams in theory get easier matches, division winners always play each other, that sort of thing. Pittsburgh, Houtson,Tennessee, Kansas City, Jacksonville, Indianapolis. (6 games). I'm going to guess that that's two from each remaining AFC division. Just don't ask about tie-breakers for the playoffs, that gets really complicated.
