I'm hoping for a side something like;
Butland

Walker, Cahill, Jagielka, Baines

Cleverley, Rodwell, Lampard

Johnson/Walcott, Sturridge/Carroll, Young/Ox.

If Defoe and Carrick start I just don't see the point and I'm with the Prof, 20 doing the "why don't you".

I can't work out whether Sturridge is a burgeoning talent that both England and Chelsea should push forwards. Or a bit of a whinger who's not half as good as his own press. Guess Wednesday won't help me with this conundrum.

I honestly think it could be the latter, but even if that turns out to be the case he is its a better option than "natural goalscorer" Defoe.

I know what you mean, but that chipped goal he scored in the Olympics was pretty special.

So, what are the odds on Hart, Walcott and the Ox playing for their clubs this weekend?

Arranging a friendly for a couple of days before the season start is madness (our big summer signing is going to be in Puerto Rico three days before our first game, totally ridiculous). this is one situation where I wouldn't mind all these players pulling a Gareth Bale and playing at the weekend.

Townsend showing his tactical skills.

Problem with Johnson is playing a left footed player on the right is that he has to come into trouble to shoot.
Not if you've got a left footed player on the right and a right footed player on the left with fullbacks who push on.
They gave you your width you tool.

Jag equalises from a corner created by Walker overlapping Johnson.

Still not convinced by Jags at this level.

No surprise he's bringing that in, Fulham were one of the first cases I remember of inverted wingers. It has some advantages, but needs a lot of fluidity.

I like Adam Johnson.

That is all.

No, that is not all. Has Big Andy touched the ball yet? I'm not really paying too much attention...

Decent match.

Liking the fact England are playing some smart common sense on the ground football.
Lampard and Carrick are making the midfield tick while Andy Johnson has certainly made a positive impression.

I get a sense of progression now with this England team. The youth set-up of u17,u18 and u21's seems to be finally going through that process of introducing England players into the first team.

Italy,though,have certainly been flat.

Carrick, Defoe, Lescott, and Milner all playing now.

What's the fucking point of that? What are we hoping to learn?

Time to catch up with the Newsroom.

It's another friendly and the natural goalscorer has grabbed one.

Que the bullshit bingo.

Whey "natural goalscorer"

Oh yes, you can alway rely on him apparently.

Glad we tried 4-3-3, seemed to look a lot better.
If nothing else a few green shoots, and a move away from 4-4-2 can only be a positive.
Reintroduce some of the established players Cole, Gerrard, Rooney but the kids who performed keep their place.
Walker and Cleverly should keep their starting places for the September qualifiers.

I'm no Defoe fan either but have to admit it was a good goal. Selfish git though!

Played some decent stuff with Cleverly and Walker looking good, as did Milner when he came on.

Is Roy really going to play Gerrard and Lampard together in midfield tonight? Why has nobody tried this before?!

I'm surprised no England manager has ever tried such a radical idea.
Hopefully we'll win the World Cup with this amazing foresight that Roy ,clearly ,has.

I don't have a problem with it. There's a big difference between a 4-4-2 and how I expect the team to line up. Still a lot of injuries to the squad and its important to Roy that the team gets points on the board.

It is expected that Moldova will try to defend. With Rooney and Carroll out England lack either a bit of skill, or a blunderbuss approach to break through the defense. We know that both Gerrard and Lampard can strike a football cleanly from outside the box and that might be just the break England need.

I'm still looking for evolution, not revolution. I think its important to bring through new players and I know that Bob (for example) has pointed to a number of players who could come through. But I still think the timing has to be right and these players will have to step up.

I think, more controversial for me, is Carrick in the team.

I don't have a problem with them being in the squad, we've got injuries so its understandable but they aren't the marauding forces they were anymore and we've seen before they can't control a game together so I don't see how a Gerrard/Lampard partnership benefits anybody in the long run. Tom Cleverley has shown enough promise and form in the Olympic team and against Italy to warrant a start for me, give the lad some experience. Carrick I can deal with, I'm not his biggest fan but he can pass and he won't be required to defend too much.

Carrick is not a bad choice to throw into an injury hit England team against a shit team. He'll probably do alright and then stupid people will start calling for him to be in there permanently

It a game against really low ranked opponents, of course Defoe is going to get a hat trick.
Its just a rarity for it to be in a competitive match too.

Think the Ox and Cleverly have looked useful. Gerrard has been poor though, and Moldova are woeful.
