I can't post any comments on the blog, because the code you have to type in the box (what exactly is the point of that anyway?) doesn't take. Even when it's just numbers - so no problems with case snesitivity. It's very fucking annoying.

I'm the exact same. It's been that way for a while. Couldn't post comments to the London Film Festival blogs (so that's going back a few months) and I'm currently trying to post to the Sundance ones, but nothing. I don't get a message saying the "are you a human" code hasn't taken or anything, it's just that when I click submit, the page re-loads but with no comment.

There are others leaving comments though, so it's not affecting everyone. Scruffybobby, if I recall correctly, is Belfast-based? I could be totally wrong in that, but maybe it's a "you're in the wrong country" thing? Whatever it is, would appreciate a fix on it!

I'm afraid you are a wee bit wrong. I'm in Livngston, near Edinburgh. So it's defo not a location thing (for me anyway) it's also not a browser thig either, I've had the problem with IE7 and Firefox. at home and at work.

Just a wee bit wrong so!  I've no idea where I thought I got that nugget from!

So it seems to be affecting people from all over, but not everyone. Very odd. I've tried different browsers too, and logging off/logging back in - nada. Annoying!

I'm afraid some of us have been getting that for over 6 months now, so it may not be fixed quickly. Is there something specific you needed that we may be able to use the admin options to help you out with?

If you can't get into the Registration details tab that would be different - I can get to that and change my sig/avatar without a problem, so that'd be a new site error.

If you can't get in there and you want a new avatar link put in then try a Mod - we can do that from the admin panel. Just PM the link to the hosting site

So whenever I sent a PM now, I get this message

We are sorry...

You are seeing this message because of one of the following reasons:
  1. You tried to post information from another domain.
  2. Personal firewall installed on your computer explicitly erased "http_referer" information.

Problem #1:

Forum admin enabled domain checking to prevent any unauthorized access from other domains. Please use http://www.empireonline.com/forum/ to access our forum. You may click here to try again.

Problem #2:

Your personal firewall software may explicitly erased "http_referer" information from your browser. This small piece of information is used for security reasons only and we do not store this information on our web server, our database server, nor your browser (as cookies).
You will be able to view the content on our forums but you will not be able to post messages without "http_referer". The following personal firewall applications are known to cause this problem:
Norton Internet Security 2002:
  • Options
  • Personal Firewall
  • Advanced Options
  • Browsing Privacy
  • Click on the Permit tab from the drop down box on the Browser (User Agent)

Zone Alarm Pro Edition (under Privacy Sections):
  • Mobile Code Control > Off
  • Ad blocking > Off
  • Cookie Control > Off

It is also possible to set our forum's URL as a trusted site on some firewall software so that the software's settings will not conflict with our forums. For more information on firewall configuration, please consult the manual accompanied with the firewall software for detailed configuration instructions.
When I tried to PM yesterday I was getting a simple Timed Out message. Pretty sure its not my settings or whatever, because I've tried on three different computers, all of which I've sent PMs on before.

Could you try it again Paul? They've just sorted out Forum Prefs and it might have sorted some other stuff out.

If not, we can alter your sig in the meantime.

Could you PM me what you want to be in your sig, please - to see if it is you typing it that is the problem, or if there is a glitch on the ID generally?

Not currently, as you've switched that feature off for me via the Admin Panel. Now that "forum preferences" are restored, can I have the option back again please?

Although I would make clear the post you quoted wasn't directed at yourself - otherwise it looks rather odd.

Haven't been able to delete messages from my inbox (including those Spam messages) for a couple of weeks now. Every time I try it reminds me that the action is irreversible and asks if I want to continue. I click ok, but the messages remain.

Hi,
I can get to my Reg page and seemingly upload an avatar image but when I "Apply My Changes" I get;

500 - Internal server error.
There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed.

Any advice?

most people host their avatars on a site like imageshack or photobucket and then link via the URL. This is by far the best method.
