It’s not the films biggest problem. However having now read The Tracking Shot in Kapo (Serge Daney) and De l'Abjection (Jacques Rivette) I can see where they are coming from but it’s still stupid that Daney never took 15 seconds of his life to have look. I thought it came across as a poorly executed shot, clumsy, a little LOOK, LOOK AT THIS (AND ME!) and overall a waste of physical exertion. It’s certainly not something to condemn a man for life with; especially given how the flaws apparent in Kapò are none existent in The Battle of Algiers.

Oddly I feel that awarding it 5 (or 6) wouldn't sit right with me as though I were awarding it for sheer endurance and scale.

I think it is a masterpiece but one that has flaws. It's an incredibly ambitious piece and well worth the effort but at times I found myself weary with principles and ironies, the cycle of helping, pitying others to their detriment. If I were to rate the film purely on Tatsuya Nakadai performance it would be getting that elusive 6.

In fairness, nominating 2 of those was just being deliberately horrible. Even if I do have Watchmaker just above Coup

It's alright. They are varying degrees of good/excellent/superb but all earned the rating, I particularly liked Coup.

I'm glad. It's why I like doing these lists and polls and stuff, in the hope people will check out something new and (hopefully) like it.
