I had to chuck out my video of this, so I've added it on LoveFilm. What are the performances like?

I'd say Lancaster was the weakest of the 3 leads, but it is hard to resist a Lancaster, Ryan, Cobb lineup with notable support. It's far from a bad performance but feels more like he's relying on his reputable stoicism, hard edge persona, which I think he pulls off quite well but what really bogs the film down is the familiarity of it all, the film tries a mythic poeticism, which does deliver some touching moments but on the whole never quite nails the feeling. There's nothing fresh and imaginative. So while I like the performances and Ryan and Cobb are the standouts, all things taken into account I'd say it just a few points above bland. That probably sounds harsher than what I mean, it is enjoyable but I was left feeling the potential wasn't met.

I've not long watched White Elephant myself. A bit of a guddle I thought - middling score seems fair.
