Thanks for this thread, I would have no idea how to get to my profile otherwise! The clickable 'My Empire' link in the top left hand corner is pretty small and I didn't notice it before. Any way to change this?

I think the My Empire link is pretty much the setup of the forum.  When this forum first started, I was at a loss myself!  If you can think of anything else that might be useful to have in the beginning post of this thread, then we'll be glad to hear about it!

Do you mean that you couldn't get it to work?  It worked fine for me.

Nope Lu, I couldn't get it to work at all for me and I made repeated attempts at it too.

You're a real star.  Thank you.

When i try and add html links in my sig to sites outside of empire, i get "www.empireonline.co.uk" added to the web address i have put, and the result is just a address not recognised page. Anyone know what this is about?

so for example, if i insert this into my sig: <a href="http://dekard49.deviantart.com/">DeviantART Profile</a>

when i click through, it tries to direct me here: http://www.empireonline.co.uk/Forum/%22http://dekard49.deviantart.com/%22

?

I have another problem - I uploaded my avatar but it doesn't seem to display. It's well within the memory limit and size limit - can anyone help?

Cheers, ally

Well, abe and alleycat, as far as I know the upload avatar feature doesn't work yet. The best thing to do it to upload it to a free image hosting site for example:
www.theimagehosting.com
www.imageshack.us
Or you can search for another just google free image hosting.

Upload the avatar there, then it will give you a path - for example mine is http://images5.theimagehosting.com/capBlack.gif - and make a note of it.

Then go into My Empire -> My Details -> My Avatar and Enter URL. Transfer the path into there, hit apply and fingers crossed....

That's not something the mods have control over. James has a thread on things you can request as improvements, though I believe someone else has already asked this.

thelightbringer: I think the easiest thing to do it remove the standard html link and use ubb code, so something like:
[*url]your website here[/url*] only remove the asterisks.

abe froman: This your avatar?

I think what you've done is put the link in incorrectly.

There's a radio button next to the a text box for the path to the avatar, make sure that's checked and paste in :
http://images5.theimagehosting.com/marty.1.jpg

And it should work. You've got some crazy path in there at the moment.

I checked the link to your av, abe, and it doesn't seem to be in the right format.  Can you send me the picture you want?  I'll see if I can get it loaded up for you.

If you can find it on the Net and send me a link to it from there, I can resize it and load it up.

EDIT:  Nevermind.  I just got the image to come up and added it to your account.

EDIT EDIT:  I see that Captain just posted it up too.

ok firstly, does the url still exist? (as in, does it still lead to a picture?). secondly, just right click on the picture, go to its properties, highlight its url simply copy and paste it into the bit that wants a url (im assuming you're doing this already). Finally, if this doesn't work, paste into a reply what exactly it is that you are pasting into the avator url field, so someone else can try it.

now....can anyone help me with my problem!!??!

OK, I have this for your Av URL, dark crystal.

http://www.empireonline.co.uk/forum/[IMG]http://img490.imageshack.us/img490/3909/santahussein5rg.jpg

It should read more like this:

http://img490.imageshack.us/img490/3909/santahussein5rg.jpg

However, when I use just what I have given you above, it takes me to the imageshack main site.  PM me a link to the image on the web and I'll see what I can do to get it showing up.

Images in posts...  When you find the image on the internet or copy the URL from a hosting site like imageshack, Stalla, does anything at all show up in the post?  A box with a red X or nothing?

Stalla: all you need to do is click on the
Add Image button  on the format bar. Then paste the link into there, just as you did with your avatar.

Edit: er, actually it's playing up a bit tonight, hang on......I think the reason your image doesn't link correctly is the URL is too big for the text box that you paste the image link into.

what on the format bar? the last icon for add image? that's what i did in my second attempt to add the image, and as you can see (or not as the case is) it didnt work

on another note...woohoo that post made me a ninja in training..im no longer a newbie...in fact the vast majority of those posts were me trying to get pics in my posts!

[ url=http://uk.download.yahoo.com/plus/fu/oa/answers.jpg]YOUR LINK HERE

Remove the space before url at the beginning and then after /url at the end of the link.  It will work as shown for "click here" above.
