Nope. The Star Wars haters are worse than both of them.

I'm fine with Empire reanalyzing Star Wars: Newman's review was fun. As for those memories things, I feel it should have been for the 30th anniversary, but nevermind.

At least we got Indy this month, and hopefully LOTR with the 5th anniversary this December.

Another thread on Star Wars was just closed by one of the mods because there are plenty of other threads already going. Anyone else see the irony there?

Yes. Yes I can.

Just a quick question is Empire planning a 30th Anniversary celebration of Star Wars next year? You know any excuse kind of thing?

The Star Wars coverage could be put to better use. I'd enjoy gratitous Evil Dead coverage.

Even if you hate it, Star Wars did warrant the thirtieth anniversary treatment. And it's not like Empire is uncritical; I get the impression (from this issue and reviews etc) that most of the writers disliked the prequels.

The point is its been done to death. Many good movies could benefit from a quarter of the coverage that Empire gives to Star Wars and its ilk. In my case I have already stopped buying Empire and switched to another mag simply because of the lacklustre level of writing and its boring coverage of " upcoming " movies and blockbusters to the virtual exclusion of other, better, movies.

I'd argue that Empire should be able to do both - celebrate appropriate landmarks of notable films (at the risk of seeming to some to do the subject to death), and coverage of interesting, non-blockbuster movies.

Oh yes they SHOULD be able to do both. Its just that lately they dont. When was the last time eight or ten pages was given to something like...lets say... The Departed. An Oscar winner, box office smash and full of excellent performances by top notch stars. It doesnt happen.

I must have dreamt about the massive Grindhouse feature in the last edition then.

Because ( and Im sorry if this is too much to work out ) I did actually enjoy the mag and might be persuaded to start buying it again IF it became more balanced. Thus regaining a reader and making more profit.
However that sort of reply is about what I would expect so Im not too surprised.

So there I was thinking that the Star Wars anniversary was coming up, and it was looking like Empire were going to overlook it, and not immerse themselves in yet more nostalgia, and leave it to the likes of Total Film to jump on that bandwagon with their own retrospectives. Frankly, I should have known better.
Did the budget for creating and producing 32 different covers account for the magazine so slim this month?
And cant you please just release some kind of special magazine on the whole thing, and just MOVE ON. I recognise its importance, I really do, but the magazine is getting bogged down in hazy eyed nostalgia for films gone by, and unjustified excitement at films way in the future. I feel like the magazine is capable of better than this.

Totally agree and it almost seems as if the current staff dont know how to write or indeed have any interest in anything not designed for the kiddie market.
i know this isnt true by the way but thats how its looking lately.

Well, you do have the horror special which I see upset another big Star Wars fan. And when did you stop buying Empire? Haven't a lot of their main writers been around for years?

I did. My point is that I don't see the change in quality and focus you're referring too but I guess it's all subjective.

Well, the first part is just plain insulting, and with regards to the second part, did you read the last issue? You know, the 18 rated one? With the massive Grindhouse feature?

Again READ MY POST. I said that I knew it wasnt true, Ive happily read and enjoyed Empire in the past so I know how good the writing can be. its just that lately it seemed that the writers were being very half heartef. No I didnt read the adult issue because ( as I said ) I had stopped reading the mag a few issues previous.
