Fear and Desire Until now Kubrick`s first (although he saw that differently, he never really wanted anyone to see it) feature was almost unwatchable: the picture quality was awful and therefor never released before. Until the Library of Congress initiated a complete restauration wich made a release finally possible. That release finally is here. After Kino`s US edition, the film has now been released on blu-ray and dvd by Masters of Cinema in the UK. The result is amazing, film-wise as well as presentation-wise. The picture quality on this blu-ray is amazing. The film itself is well worth watching. I actually don`t understand why Kubrick never wanted anyone to see it. There are many facets that we see in his later films, in the way of shooting as well as storywise. The film is just over an hour long but that hour is beautiful and gripping, until the ending that makes you long for more. It`s a joy for every cinephile that this early work of the master is finally out there for everyone to see. Therefor, this release is a must. 8,0/10 Day of the Fight Short film by Kubrick that is an extra on the Fear and Desire blu-ray about a boxer who is filmed during the day of a fight. Overall it`s nothing really spectacular but some images do have a nice filmic feel to it. Nothing too special but it`s fun to have seen this old Kubrick. 6,2/10
