I had a massive crush on Sly when I were just a slip of a girl, which has continued as I've got older. My friends at uni found me slightly disturbed, but chose to gloss over it, but gradually, oh so gradually I converted them all. We started with the Rocky movies, a bit of cliffhanger, demolition man, judge dredd, built up to Rambo. Now they love him too! They still think I'm whatever the opposite of a paedophile is (a geriatrophile??!) because he's so old, and I fancied him when I was so young! But hey....it takes all sorts right?!

Ironically, my boyfriend is younger than me....go figure!

People actually forget that Sly is quite a good actor. Look back at the first Rocky and First Blood, the man was billed as the next Brando!

It's only when he started making films like Tango and Cash and Cobra that his credibility slipped and Rocky and Rambo became more overblown and entertaining then their grounded originals.

Can't wait for Rocky VI as hopefully it'll be a return to form for Sly, not just as an actor but as a scriptwriter and director.

I like Stallone. He's only turned in 3 worthy acting performances (Rocky, First Blood, Copland) and been guilty of making some desperate career choices and awful films, but he seems a funny, self deprecating kind of guy. (By the way trivia fans - his trademark drawl and slurred speech which draws such derision is actualy a result of paralysis caused during complications at his birth)

I remember when he, Willis and Arnie were doing publicity for Planet Hollywood - Willis and Arnie gave monosyllabic soundbites, whereas Stallone (ironically dismissed as a monosyllabic actor) was cracking jokes, making articulate points but generally not taking things too seriously. I reckon he'd be a top fella to go our for a pint with.

It opens in the states on december 22nd. But not open here till feb! Don't know why the delay. The buzz seems pretty positive, and I think that if it does well at the box office, they'll bring the uk date forward to cash in on that. So here's hoping!

I think IŽll join in and say that Sylvester Stallone is a very good actor and an accomplished writer. I enjoy almost everyone of his films, except Judge Dredd,Rhinestone,Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot and Judge Dredd. IŽll list my 10 favorites of his.

1. Rocky (1976)

2. First Blood (1982)

3. Rambo : First Blood Pt. 2 (1985)

4. NightHawks (1981)

5. Demolition Man (1993)

6. Rocky 2 (1979)

7. Cliffhanger (1993)

8. Cop Land (1997)

9. Death Race 2000 (1975)

10. Lock Up (1989)

A harsly under-rated actor IMO, Stallone is charming and actually quite funny. Besides being a total bad-ass.

On Aint it cool, Sly is answering 10 fan questions per day for the next week or so - on day 3 so far - and it is excellent. Very entertaining, and enlightening. Worth a peak if it interests you.

No. Any good? Just bought the definitive dvd of Rocky. Fantastic extras. It has an hour and a half making of on Rocky with interviews with everyone involved. A 20 minute interview with all of Rockys opponants, from Apollo to Tommy Gunn. Tons of stuff and a commentary by Sly himself.
During the making of... they talk about Burgess Meredith at one point, and I was really moved when you could see Burt Young (who is a hard as nails crusty ol' geezer) and Carl Weathers get choked up. Very moving. Great DVD

Stallone is a zeitgeist.  Look at his seventies persona, Rocky, His Eighties persona,John Rambo, His Nineties Persona, Copland, and now the reclamation of the Seventies/Eighties hero, Rocky/Rambo.  The man is a Star.  Anyone who can create not one, but two movie icons is tremendous.  Incidentally, the Studios wanted Ryan O Neal for Rocky, but Stallone said no, it`s either me or no-one. This from a man who was living below the poverty line at the time.
Now then  Rocky Balboa, Great Film, But what has happened to his eyebrows. He looks like Fenella Fielding.

Truly a colossus titan of modern cinema.

I might watch Over the Top in celebration.

Interesting...
Sly and President Bush share the same age and b'day!
Actually that isn't interesting at all.

My Top Ten Sly Stallone Films

1) Rocky

2) First Blood

3) Cop Land: Directors Cut

4) Rocky Balboa

5) Demolition Man

6) Tango & Cash

7) Cobra

8) Assasins

9) Get Carter

10) The Specialist

I'm a huge fan of Sly's but he has made some dreadful films (Judge Dread, Stop Or My Mom Will Shoot! Spy Kids 3D, Oscar, D-Tox) and I thinh he is the actor with the most amount of Razzie nominations, but he can act loved Rocky Balboa and John Rambo is one of my most ancicipated films of 2008.

Hope he brings Cobra, John Sparton, and Ray Tango back to the screen.
