WHO belongs on TV,it's been fine there since the early 60's. Yes, there were those crap Dalek movies with Peter Cushing (and they were crap, please don't try and convince me otherwise... ) but throwing this great stuff into cinemas just to make a few quid...

Hey, I liked 'em!

Not having it. It's fine as it is, sold to scores of countries around the world, gathering up a ton of money and fans...

A movie backed by a major studio (as Sony undoubtedly is) would have a bigger reach than the TV series. And if the highest level people (i.e Michael Lynton and Tom Rothman) are that interested there's far more cash to be made than even I might have suspected. A movie done well can be a massive boost to the show. And most likely this would be coming out in one of those gap years where the TV series isn't coming out, anyway.

Um, GAP YEARS..?

When exactly is that happening? Have I missed something?

if there has to be a movie then i want no studio involved. maybe bbc films or working titles.
or an alliance with producer david haymen.

if a studio was involved they may want the show to finish so that they can keep 'who' going as a franchise, similar to the TNG movies.

not a good idea I think.

I'd say either do a movie in complete continuity with the show, or do a separate movie with its own continuity (or neither, of course).
I'd be interested in a whole new version, as I have certain issues with the show....

Yes to your first 2 options.

But as for the idea of a whole new take...i'd rather go and live in a fucking caliphate.

A studio movie will only be on the table when Moffat leaves, because his particular ethics on this subject have been the only thing (rightly) stopping it.

The *only* way for an alternative Doctor Who to be done well outside of the BBC (and there is no chance of this happening) is for a studio to pack their advisors full of Big Finish writers and producers. But really if you were going to spend the money, why would you go for such purism? You'd do a Spiderman origin story so aa many people as possible are on board.

I think with 50th anniversary episode and the Deep Breath episode there is an itch in Moffat to do feature length episodes. Just exploring a new structure in story-telling that that would afford. But it's not the same as amping it up for movie mass audiences.

I've loved my nights out at the cinema that the TV show has given. But no, i'd be very against a movie. I'd rarher live in a caliphate

Yeah, I wouldn't want a big hollywood deal that was intended for the popcorn eating masses. But maybe a smaller production company along with the BBC, with a relatively modest budget and, as you said, some established Doctor Who writers would do something that was true to the show (preferably the classic show).

Partly I'm fantasising about someone making Doctor Who exactly the way I want it to be, but it could be done.
