ORIGINAL: Invader_Ace Here you go. http://www.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-radio/tvandradioblog/2012/oct/12/doctor-who-amy-rory-alternative-ending I'm glad we got to see this. Oooh, I don't know what this is yet. I'll wait until the DVD is out on the 29th. Speaking of the DVD, honestly, I thought this was the best run of episodes in succession I've ever seen. I think Asylum of the Daleks is 10/10 desert island Doctor Who. When A Good Man Goes to War came out it was damned with the faint praise of "has Doctor Who caught up with Star Wars?" of course it hadn't, that episode was massively flawed and very crap (the cleric chant, "I am not a fool" or some such...crap). I think Asylum surpassed Star Wars...ok no, it didn't, but it comes very close, and there's a great deal about it that gives me goosebumps. It's a genre mix, like the evil SS from Schindler's List sent the wholesome good-guys of The Great Escape on a mission. It started out invigorating, then got creepy, a lot, there's a bit of Blair Witch in that episode, and then got creepy again. And it was funny. And in between all that it was creepy, funny and invigorating. Not only did it's surprise break the tension of the Companion handover, it gave a real fresh enthusiastic shot-in-the-arm hope for the new companion and her arc. And...also giving a massively emotive scene to the outgoing Ponds. Dinosaurs I loved. Cursed for it's kiddie flippancy, an extremely dark episode clothed in Disney. The Doctor executes someone. A rare event...let's clothe it in Disney and Disney comedy. It doesn't hurt that it has Brian. I love Brian. A Town Called Mercy. My least favourite episode, I'd score it a 8/10. The cyborg looked and sounded crap. The rest was a really brilliantly written moral debate with a War Criminal. I'm a big fan of Marathon Man. It was great to see the Doctor meet someone and say "you actually don't know you're a fucking war criminal?!!!!" Another episode that has time for the Ponds, the bad bastard says to Amy "you're a mother aren't you?" And when Amy asks him if he's a father he says "in a way...I suppose I am" what a chill bastard. The last time two gingers had a moment like that in Doctor Who was when Vincent said to Amy "you've lost someone" "no, I haven't." "then why are you crying?". Food for thought this episode. Food.for.thought. Cubed (AKA The Power of Three...crap title, but it was originally called Cubed). Loved it. It had Brian. And Steven Berkoff. What a crap ending. Or was it? Watch it again. It doesn't make sense, but how beautifully, creepy, and goth was that, with a high production value! This was a far cry from Peter Kay in an unnecessary fat suit. Plus, it had the honest-to-god-cry-your-lamps-out Jemma Redgrave as the new Brig. Rest.My.Case.At.The.New.Brig. Cried buckets at that. Speaking of crying buckets. Angels in Manhattan. I LOVE the Ponds. Almost got banned for my love of the Ponds. Their exit was utter crap. Speaking of crying buckets, I was as dry as the Gobui. Crap to the extent I honestly, honestly didn't give a toss about them. But you know, it was still a 9/10 episode. Ponds departure? Crap. Moffat doing a sci-fi introspection into the monsters he created? Class. A very good, creepy sci-fi take that got mired into the whole Ponds leaving thing. See the whole, back-in-time battery farm....I thought that was ultimate-new-take on the Weeping Angels. Loved it. Anyhoo. DVD is out on the 29th. I don't work for BBC Worldwide. But buy, buy, buy, because these are the reasons why I think this 5 episode run is pretty, pretty, pretty good.
