Would have been a little distasteful in screening a movie about a terrorist attack at an airport, I guess.

Unusual though, the BBC always had a habit of scheduling movies then having to cancel them due to events in the news.

I'd reccomend Once in A Lifetime to anyone interested in football. Presumably timed due to the Beckham transfer, I own it on DVD and its incredibly interesting - 'Soccer' nearly did make it in america.

Those of you who can't be bothered to read the new Harry Potter book this week (or even queuing for it tonight), you've got loads of outstanding movies to watch, and all the details are on Page One.

Enjoy!

This week sees the start of the BBC's Summer of British Cinema, which looks like a terrific season both on TV and at the cinema (Goldfinger on Tuesday at Cineworld...unmissable), but Saturday has a good Stephen Frears double bill, then the rest will fall nicely into place.

Listing is on page one

Enjoy!

Loads of repeat screenings of films that had been on earlier during the week.

But really looking forward to the BBC British Summer Season...shame I'm going to be in America for most of it.

(Gregory's Girl next week and you know that is unmissable)

Just two more days and I'm leaving on a jet plane for my annual trip to America (a whole month...bliss!). But have no fear, dear reader, I will try and bring you the usual listings over the next month, even if it's a little different, but you will have something to help you look over the TV here in Blighty.

Anyway, it Friday so a new listing in on Page One.

Enjoy!

Not sure if the point of this thread is to state what you thought of films seen on TV or not. If I'm right then here goes:
All Or Nothing - Sat night. Very depressing but very enjoyable with a glint of hope at the end. *****
Quills (taped off Film4) - not overwhelmed but I enjoyed it. Geoffrey Rush is in excellent form as the Marquis de Sade and Michael Caine is always good value. *****
Ballistic: Ecks vs Sever - load of ol' bollocks. If you're idea of a good movie is a crap plot and very average acting, pushed along by one 'action' set piece after another, focusing on a delight of various types of guns being fired and lots of explosions then fill your boots. Otherwise, avoid like the plague. *****

If I'm wrong about what this thread's about then apologies....

Not sure if you include films which are on BBC4, as I'm not sure it's one of the free channels, but you didn't mention Saraband, it's on tonight at midnight (less that 1 hour), great film and would be a good way for someone to get into Ingmar Bergman since it's one of his more recent films.

Week two of my American adevnture, although I'm sure missing the British flicks. Still The Invasion and Superbad opens here today, so a couple of film to check out this week.

Speaking of checking things out, the new listing is on page one.

Enjoy!

P.S: Sorry if there are some absent movies from the list but due to my long distance, I cannot double check if there are any changes. Normal service should resume in September.

Entering into my final week of my American adventure (poor releases this week with only War to look forward too) and a top notch collection of movies on the old telly box at home. Shame I'm gonna miss them.

All the details are on page one as usual.

Enjoy!

My American holiday is coming to an end (back in Blighty on Tuesday, just in time to see The Dam Busters), so no more endless showings of High School Musical 2 for me (please! I beg of you, no more!)

New listings on page one.

Enjoy!

Is BBC2 having a Fritz Lang season, or something? His best american noirs are on every night (almost) this week- I'm not complaining though- The Big Heat is on!

WHILE THE CITY SLEEPS 1.30am BBC2 *RECOMMENDED*
Fritz Lang film noir with Dana Andrews as a reporter who must try and prevent a media empire from collapse after the death of its owner, prevent anymore young women from being murdered by a serial killer, and to work out the problems within his own relationship. A very classy and stylish movie with Andrews on top form in a tense and watchable thriller.

quote:

BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT 12.45am BBC2 *RECOMMENDED*
Another film noir from Fritz Lang with Dana Andrews as a reporter who goes out to prove that the justice system doesn't work by taking the rap for a crime he didn't commit, and having a friend hold back evidence until the last minute that will prove his innocence, but events take a turn for the worse. A straight-forward, interesting thriller that doesn't go out to surprise, but just does a reasonable job at what it set out to be.

There's been a few Fritz Lang films popping up on various channels in the last few months and here's another two that are unavailable on dvd, plus they are also showing The Big Heat and the superb Scarlet Street, great stuff.

New listings on page one.
