Touching the Void was pretty good actually. Perhaps not as good as I thought it would be because firstly the ending was dissapointing (not of the story, as obviously it's a true story but the way it was handled - it was like "so that's it"), and I also thought at the end "well that was inspiring, and a little bit moving, but it didn't really have a huge amount of point".

Is this christmas going to be good for films?

Also, do you know when the Christmas TV Listings are released yet? As in, not when you get them, but when the Radio Times and TV Guide etc release the 2 week christmas special editions.

Okay. I can let you into some secrets. The full Christmas list does not get released until next week (Tuesday to be precise, when you can buy the Christmas edition of the the TV guides).

I will try to have a list up as soon as I get it. It might not be in the form they are at the moment due to so many films being shown.

What I can tell you, as far as the network premieres are concerned, the biggie is Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl. BBC have that and will probably be showing it either Christmas Day or Boxing Day (prob the latter as they have the new Xmas Doctor Who as their ratings winner that night).

Others that have been confirmed are:

Mrs Henderson Presents
City of God
Calender Girls
The Hours
Adaptation
Monsters Inc.

As I said, I am compling the list leading up to Christmas as we speak and then next week I will list the major movies on this very page. So look out for that.

The brand new list of movies on TV has now been finalised and I will be posting the whole thing on this page within the next few days. It won't be as comprehensive as my usual listings, but it will pin-point the ones to look for and the ones to avoid.

I can tell you that the premieres are very few and far between this time round, and we are being treated to some real classics. Plus, ITV have brought out the Back To The Future trilogy and the Jurassic Park threesome...AGAIN! Tons for the family to enjoy as well as a season of The Falcon movies very late on BBC2.

Not the strongest of years by any stretch, but I'm sure you will find something to keep you occupied in between watching your Superman box set!

As I said, the list will be up and running by the end of this week, and will have three weeks worth of movie entertianment. (Does that mean I get a break for Christmas?)

Annoyed that I forgot to record The Madness of King George last night. I wanted to see it because it was written by Alan Bennett but sailed out of the hosue and remembered about 10 minutes too late!

Final Destination 2 is on recording right now, oh how I looke forward to that

Also, following on from Wrenster's public service notice, there seems to be an ever diminishing amount of people posting in this thread. It's a shame because it's nice to see different people's tips, and discussion or comparison of the TV offerings of the week. Even moreso it seems more polite to acknowledge Wrenster's work by dropping a quick message of thanks, even if it doesn't explicitly say thanks by posting its acknowledging that you've used the guide.

Isn't that always the way? I'm always doing that. Forgetting a film that I want to either watch of record, but then I do get these listings almost two weeks before hand so I tend to forget. Have no fear, Spider. I am sure it will be reshown on Film4 in the not-too-distant future (or one of the other Channel 4 channels)

Recording Moonlight Mile at the moment, as I do like this film, even if it is a little downbeat in places.

Thanks for your kind words and support. It is nice to know that my listings are appreciated. I suppose there are those who like starting new threads just for the sake of it. And considering how long this thread has been going (as a sticky) there aren't that many comments, but loads do view it every week, which is a sign that there is an audience for it.

Time Bandits jumps on The Goonies and bounces up and down until it gives in!

I have never rated The Goonies. The concept is fine, it's just the kids. They are, what I call, drama school brats! And their level of speaking goes from loud to louder still to just plain shouting!

Whereas Time Bandits has a certain dignity about it, even if it is completely off the wall. Visually and comically, it is a far superior movie. And let's face it, in a directorial fight between Gilliam and Donner, Gilliam would win hands down. No contest.

 Thanks a lot for this thread, wrenster.  Only discovered it about 10 days ago but it has gave me a heads-up on a lot of films I wouldn't have noticed! So thank you. One small request though... do you think when you update for a new list you could keep the current days 'fixtures', maybe just in the last post or something, I only ask because I came to see what was on tonight but its not up now. No problem, just a suggestion.
