There is loads of good stuff on this week! I was beginning to give up with films on tv, and it is noticeable yet again that film4 doesnt really have anything to offer.

Well that was a month! After some kind individual sent a virus to my computer and and I lost my 4 year database of review for this page, I have managed to retrieve everything, got my PC back and working and so the TV review is back just in time for February.

Sorry to those who missed me. These things are sent to test us.

New listing on page one.

Enjoy!

CARMEN JONES 11am ****
Contemporary version of Bizet’s opera with Dorothy Dandridge as Carmen, a woman who can have any man she wants, but goes after Joe, a pilot who is about to fly off to Korea. Harry Belafonte plays Joe, in this colourful and nice filmed musical with some outstanding singing and great performances from the two leads.

Would just like to recommend this to anyone who hasnt seen it! Carmen is in my view the finest opera ever amde, even if you detest the art form of opera theres something in Carmen for everybody and this film dilutes it all down into a very vibrant, enjoyable movie.

wrenster I think these 2 offerings from Film 4 on Friday (tonight)...

RUN FATBOY RUN 9pm ****
David Schwimmer directs this likeable comedy with Simon Pegg as a man who cannot commit to anything, but in order to win his former fiancée back, he decides to run the London Marathon. The joy of this film is Pegg and his relaxed manner while the script does have some genuinely funny moments. It might not be the greatest comedy of all time, but one that will leave you smiling long after it has ended.

RAISING ARIZONA 10.55pm ****
If you want a great Nicolas Cage movie, then look no further. This Coen Brothers gem about a childless couple who steal one of quintuplets, and then pay the consequents is a bizarre, hilarious comedy with that Coen flair. Holly Hunter is great as Cage's wife, the law enforcer who turns bad because of love. Lots of strange characters, great visuals and a fine line in darkly funny humour. Terrific.

...are the first in the Pegg/Frost Paul promotion related, comedy films weekend where they are providing intros to some of the films and being interviewed about Paul etc. Raising Arizona is superb fun.

EDIT: No it actually starts with Meet Dave at 7:05pm (I can't imagine Nick and Simon are going to be that complimentary about this one so might be fun to watch their intro...)

Once again another uninspired collection of the same movies that get played over and over again. Come on, TV companies...let's have some more exciting films to brighten up our days. (Although Film4 are showing all the Alien films on consecutive nights!) and the network première of Christopher Nolan's The Prestige.

New listing on page one!

Enjoy!

The most exciting thing happening this week is Five USA changing its name to 5USA.

Come on TV companies...75% of your films have been shown countless times of the past three months. Let's have some different films please...not just countless screenings of Scarface.

New listing on page one.

Enjoy!
