Bootleg footage of the trailer is (if you'll excuse the pun) flying round the net. Low res quality . Reminded me a LOT of the original Superman Returns trailer, and a similar dark tone. It's even got Russel Crowe's Jor-El doing a voiceover about Kal-El's destiny in the same way that Brando was used for the Superman Returns one. The  SFX flying footage didn't seem to be light ahead of Superman Returns, but then I guess it was only six years ago.   Looks pretty cool stuff, but i'll reserve judgement until next June. Had my fingers burned with stellar trailers for Prometheus and we all know how that turned out...

Just watched the trailer. But I use the word 'watched' loosely as I couldn't see anything. They used a suitably epic Hans Zimmer score (Thin Red Line). They've got a great cast, and it looks like they're being put to good use as some of the voice-overs in that were fantastic.

It will be sad to say goodbye to Batman, but the 'other' mega DC character is twelve months away....cannot wait.

I know that Marvel have the quantity of superheroes but the heavyweights belong to DC. Nolan has (so far) kicked Batman out of the park, so let's hope Snyder does the same with Superman.

Ropey quality and I only watched a couple of seconds as I want the first time to be on an IMAX screen... but had goose bumps at the flying!

Looks alright. Not a huge lot to go on. It certainly looks like a more reservered Zack Snyder at the moment. I would like to think that if he can hold back to add the pathos and depth that Superman requires, and the really let rip in the actions scenes, then he could have something special. Having the likes of Kevin Costner, Russell Crowe, and Diane Lane in the important supporting roles might just assure some real weight behind the words.

I liked the (presumably young Clark) trying on a mock up cape in the yard. Though this could be any kid trying to emulate Superman with his mothers wet washing. And I thought Costners voice over was fantastic. It is certainly different to her the advice coming from Jonathon rather than Jor-El for a change, and I liked it. I wonder if this suggests a more fractious relationship between Kal-El and his natural Father ala Smallville? Who knows?!
Still waiting to here some music properly. I maintain that this is a big thing. I understand the need to wipe the slate clean (i didn't used to), but that hole will need filling. And filling with something great.

I know it has been discussed ad nausium already, but here are some of the things I would LOVE to see in a Superman movie.

The origin of the suit and the symbol. Film wise, let's commit to something and get it nailed down.
Keep it epic. The Dark Knight trilogy has shown that people will sit for 150 minutes and love a movie if there is enough substance to it.
Superman really hit the depths of despair. To be defeated and to rise up again. Pissed.
Take Superman global. Don't just limit him to metropolis, he is a saviour for all mankind. But explain his inability to be everywhere and how that affects him.

Iíve not watched it so I donít know whatís in there but that is only about half of the teaser I believe. Perhaps weíll get more action shots when we see it attached to TDKR

OK.... that didnít take long. Broke and watched it . Wonder what the first half of it contains, as youíd usually keep any action shots towards the end of a teaser. Seeing him soar in the stratosphere like that was cool though... very cool

Wondering if that misty landscape is actually Earth... could that be Krypton perhaps.

Bootleg of the full trailer is now up. Hardly inpsiring stuff and Crowes voiceover sounds like it's just aping Brando's Jor-el. Not impressed

No Man of Steel trailer on any of TDKR screenings Ive been at, so I caved and watched the bootleg. Thoughts? Fucking terrible. It all looks very pretty, and I'm sure that when we start to see real footage things will look a lot rosier, but for now, that's a really uninspiring teaser. Really poor.

Hmm a strange teaser trailer that one. They showed the Batman Begins-esque side of things, rather than any sort of glimpse at the action. Which when you consider the complaints that were thrown in Returns direction, regarding the general lack of heroics, seems like an odd choice to try and get any non-fans hyped for it almost a year in advance.
There's definitely some imagery there that you wouldn't typically expect from Snyder, so all those fearing a slow-mo, hyper stylised bonanza could end up being in for a nice surprise. It looks like the Nolan influence could be rubbing off on him.
Even though I'm fully aware of Superman's story, I'm not against this origin tale like I was the recent, totally unnecessary, Spider-Man. At least in the world of cinema there hasn't been a Supes origin tale since 1978, so this one actually makes sense. (Yeah there was TV's Smallville, but IMO Welling is one of the most bland/boring actors out there today, so I didn't really get past Season 2)
So yeah, I'm still hugely excited about it, just thought they'd show a bit of Zod action, or the Tornado stuff.

Oh and Costner's voice over was far more effective than Crowe's.

Yep, I thought it was fine... no issues with the voice-overs... its just a teaser but it looks promising from this.

It really is the very essence of a teaser isnít it!

Will hold final judgement until I see it on an IMAX screen with a huge sound system. But it is sparse! Some of the shots look really beautiful and I can see why a lot people mentioned Malick after the CC footage. But in terms of a trailer it could be for anything until that final shot. But in my opinion it does the job well enough. You donít need to get the masses salivating at this point, just make them aware that superman is coming back. And that final shot does it quite wonderfully for me.

Does the job for now but not amazing. Sure the theatrical attached to the Hobbit will be all bells and whistles. Remeber, TDK teaser showed nothing whatsoever.

But the teaser (not seen with sound yet) has me excited but also very intrigued. If they can marry those beautiful, ponderous looking Malick style shots with a cracking action movie... this could be really special!

Very true, but that teaser had that thundering soundtrack, the Bat Symbol and Ledger's distinct take on the Joker and a final shot of the Joker card before giving us that great title 'The Dark Knight', Batman fans never thought we'd see a Bat movie without wht word Batman in the title! At the time that was stunning, and as a teaser it gave you enough - you knew it was Batman vs The Joker just from those images and lines of dialogue. Here, those images of a rough and ready Clarke reaching out to his inner 'Deadliest Catch' fantasy and as a boy with a makeshift cape don't really sell anything of the return of Superman. It's only with the shield and the final shot of Supes (which are both great) that you really get a feel for what this is selling - the rest (including the voiceover) doesnt really sell the idea of the return of Superman. And as was pointed out, given the critical reaction to Superman Returns, I think a bigger teaser was needed, especially after hearing descriptions of footage from Comic-Con. Dont get me wrong, I'm looking forward to it, and Im actually a fan of Snyder, but as a teaser, it sucks.

Iíve read a lot people complain that the teaser didnít contain enough footage. Which is unfair I think, when compared to something the DK teaser. I loved that DK teaser, as it gave you only the briefest snippets of what to expect. As this did really.

To each their own but as a teaser, this works for me... I feeling thoroughly teased right now

Its not that it doesnt have enough footage - it's got plenty - it's just that the footage is boring and doesn't give any real suggestion as to what this is or where it's going. The footage is dull, thats my problem with it. The Dark Knight teaser works cos it doesnt show any footage but tells you exactly what it is... Batman vs Joker and its soundtracked prefectly. This is just dull to my eyes and ears, and I'm 100% confident that it isnt reflective of the film they're making, which is poor form in my opinion. I cant see much of the general audience getting amped up about a new Superman film next Summer based upon this.

This is why I was unimpressed too. The other thing that bothered me, was the voiceover. It's far too reminiscient of Marlon Brando, considering how we've heard that this film was supposed to be a fresh start, distancing itself from Donner's movie. Also, the shot of Clark hitchhiking screamed of Superman 2, to me anyway.

I actually welcome a marketing campaign that doesn't give away too much, the Avengers movie was practically road mapped by the time I got to see it.

Precisely! Weíre just used to getting so much information these days I suppose.

I donít think you need to convey those points in a teaser, a year out from release.

We get brief beats from the story here and a nice insight into the look of the thing. And then a wonderful closing shot of him soaring into the stratosphere. And then the crest. Done! Oh thereís a new Superman film coming next year, thatís the only thing that needs to resonate with the audience at this point, nothing more. We donít need anything else at this point. Teasers donít get bums in seats, marketing much closer to release does that. Sure weíre not all going to agree on this one though

I quite liked the teaser but can see where both sides are coming from here.

The teaser looks like Superman by way of Terrence Malick, it's like Supes has stumbled into The Tree of Life or The Thin Red Line!

Full theatrical will most likely be attached to The Hobbit in December I should think.

I dont want the teaser to spunk it's load, I dont want tonnes of footage and I love teasers that tease. Which is why TDK teaser is such a great example, it used no footage yet told you enough about that movie to get the general audience really on board. Through that simple teaser of the symbol and the few lines of dialogue audiences knew 'This is Batman vs Joker' it didnt have to tell them plot or reveal the big action set pieces, but it was perfect as a teaser. If youre going to announce a new Superman film and youre going to do it via footage from the film, that footage should at least have enough to say 'Superman is back!' or it should be exciting enough to make people go 'WOW' or it should draw people in to ask questions and get curious/teased... this does none of that. Thats why I think it fails. The footage looks good and I am sure this flick will deliver the action and all the rest, I am just so dissapointed with the teaser. The Comic Con footage sounded pretty cool and sounded like it had enough to really sell it as a different kind of Superman to the previous flicks (Superman under armed guard, burning buses, heroics etc), this doesnt feel/look all that different to Singer's and it really wouldnt surprise me if the general audience thought it was a direct sequel to Returns.

I'm one of the few that really wanted a Singer directed sequel to Returns
