Agreed. Much was spoken of his rep in the last month but his record speaks for itself. Goal record that is
There's no one player to replace Suarez; he's one of a kind. But Balotelli would at least make the season interesting. It's not like we don't have a record of buying naughty strikers.....

Over a third of all the goals he scored for Milan were penalties. and his shot conversion rate was the worst in Europe last season.

That could be the best signing of the season. It could also be the worst.
Either way, I'm going to be buying my diesel from his local petrol station from now on

Huge gamble, just when the team is settled and Rodgers finally has his own side. If he can score 15+ PL goals I'd take that, but there's also a big chance we'll be on here speaking about him getting sent off for something daft which will cost Liverpool in certain games.

hang on, hang on, wait just a minute......if Sturridge weren't fit we would have only Lambert.....you with me? So we needed a striker. And even though I'm not normally one to compare, there are a lot of players out there worth (cost) more with a far worse record. His first season here was 1 in 3 goals/games. Then it was 1 in 2. Let's forget the last season he was here shall we? For 16mill he's hardly an unproven striker.
The truth is only what he does this season will matter; people will knock and point out (good and relevant) facts about his track record in all departments. We shall see what we shall see. But if he Rodgers can get the best out of him then we will be most happy.
He has a lot to prove and I hope that gets illustrated to him. At the very least he will be able to support the poor of Toxteth.....:o)

I can't wait to see how he reacts to being on the bench... brilliant!
He'll also drive Gerrard mad which is a real extra bonus!

I'm still looking at it this way. If Liverpool want to challenge for the league they have to take a gamble.

They took 2 gambles with Suarez. Firstly, he wasn't a choir boy before he joined Liverpool. But they gambled on him anyway. Then he had well reported issues at Liverpool, they could have sold him on, they actually risked him being PO'd by not doing that. But they took this gamble and it paid off, both in the league position last season and the eventual price they got for him.

They are not Man City. They can not spend the money to bring in 4 top quality strikers. So they take a gamble here. If it comes off and Rodgers does a Sturridge on Balotelli and says this is your last chance to prove yourself do it, and he does, then Rodgers will be a genius. If it goes pear-shaped then it could see them drop out of the top 4, but that could happen anyway. And Rodgers may also be thinking that to keep Sturridge focused he needs competition.

We don't know that Mario will sit on the bench, there was a lot made last season about whether Suarez and Sturridge could start together. Seemed to work out.

If I were a Liverpool supporter, I think I'd prefer to see my manager rolling the dice and going for it than playing safe and targeting 4th at best. I'd also prefer my manager to be confident that he has the management skills to take a troubled character and turn him into a good footballer, than he only wants "yes men" who probably don't have that touch of genius to them. As said above if Sturridge suddenly got injured Liverpool's options would be very limited. Let's remember that if Costa's hamstring twangs again, Chelsea don't have that many options behind him.

Prof, as Meatloaf said, you said what I was thinking and going to say but didn't say and let someone else say it instead. If nothing else, it's gonna be fascinating to see him in a Liverpool shirt. Did I hear mention of No. 45?

I reckon Wes Morgan has room for both of them in his pocket.

What does everyone think of the likely Valdes transfer?

He is the type of keeper that suits the way Rodgers plays and Mignolet could only get better by working with him.

Goalkeeper is not a position you can rotate so I would think Valdes would be first choice for League/Europe and Mignolet for the Cup games. You would hope Mignolet would see this as a great opportunity to learn rather than any sort of demotion as he has the raw ability but his inexperience and his age (for a keeper) do show at times
